Will this develop patina over time being that it is bronze?

Its bronze colored resin, so the color wont change. And it will be lighter than you expect too.

Is this safe to be used as a soap dish, or would lingering soapy water damage it?

According to the manufacturer's description... "Creatively crafted in cold cast bronze, a process of mixing bronze powder with resin, give the piece an authentic metal look with a smooth polished and highly detailed textured finish." In other words it is NOT metal & so won't rust from contact with water or soap, etc. However, also be aware...if you plan to use this to hold a candle or incense you might need to use a glass cup holder so you don't melt or scorch the resin material.
