A+ Curls
A+ iron for long hair and beachy curls and waves. It feels well made and not like a cheap iron. I am hoping it will last a long time. And the yellow gold barrel looks great too.

Best curling iron ever!
I love this curling iron! It is high quality, holds hair firmly, heats up quickly, has a long cord that swivels easily, and most importantly, it does an awesome job of curling my long, wavy, unruly hair! I bought the 1.5" barrel and it is perfect my my styling needs, which include styling my bangs and also straightening and curling-under my long, layered hair. When I accidentally dropped and broke my Conair gold ceramic curling iron last month, I was bummed and planned to replace it with the exact same model. I was disappointed that that model is no longer made and I was very reluctant to try a new brand or model, as I thought that one was perfect. Based on customer reviews, I bought this Hot Tools Professional curling iron and I have been so pleasantly surprised and impressed! Now I'm glad my old Conair broke and that I have this one instead! Where I previously had to go over my hair 2-3 times with the curling iron, I only have to go over it once most of the time with this one! This is a huge time-saver and easier on my hair. My hair actually looks and feels smoother and more healthy using this curling iron than any past model I have tried. It also came with 2 replacement springs, so if that was previously an issue, it looks like it has been addressed. Just be aware that this model does not have auto shut-off, so you need to pay attention and shut it off yourself or connect it to a timer switch to prevent it being left on all day if you forget (like I do).

Very good!
This iron heats up very quick and is easy to use. The black plastic tip area doesn't get hot allowing me to hold on to it while curling the top section of my hair. I believe the hot tools marcel iron doesn't have the plastic tip. I am not a professional hair stylist, just a regular girl so I find the tip to be helpful. I have long hair (1-2 inch past shoulder blades) that is medium thickness and color treated. I bought the 1-1/2 inch iron and use it on 380 degrees to get big voluminous Victoria Secret waves. Hair spray is a must for me in order for curls to hold. But that's always the case with any iron. I pin up the curls sometimes for extra volume and hold. I gave this iron 4 stars instead if 5 because it is easy to change the temperature by accident while curling your hair because of where the temperature dial is. The iron also does not have auto shut off feature. Overall this is a good iron for the price.

Absoluty LOVE!
First off I want to say that I LOVE this iron. I kind of was hesitant to buy this one at first but decided that I was going to get it regardless of the previous comments I had read. I have very thick, frizzy hair. For the type if hair I have, I have to always turn the irons on their highest settings. Again, I was hesitant from reading other reviews saying that this iron burned off their hair, and some other crazy reviews!! I am not a professional, however I do know how to do hair, and well. Make sure you're not clamping your hair at the tip and rolling to the root but, that you're rolling your hair from the middle to the root then working your way to the tip. If you don't know how to do this then look a tutorial up on YouTube so you can curl it correctly. This gives you a well rounded curl. Make sure you're using the correct heat setting! I'm not going to use the lowest or middle setting for my hair because I don't have straight, nor thin hair. The box has instructions on the hair type you have, and what heat setting you should use. I saw another comment saying that this worked as a better straightner than a curling iron. Well, dont expect to get a spiral curl from a 1 1/2" barrel. I bought the 1 1/2" so I would have pretty loose curls; not tight springy curls. Smaller barrel=tighter springier curls & bigger barrel= looser/ waiver curls. Before you purchase a curling iron, know the type of curl you're wanting and do some research on how what curling iron would benefit you the most. Next, NEVER EVER spray your hair with hairspray while the hair is in the barrel and being curled. This will cause nasty, and smelly build up gunk on the barrel it will cause the iron not to function correctly; thus leading to your hair not curling! Always spray your hair after you are finished curling. All in all I love this curling iron and will forever reccomend it. This is a professional curling iron, so do some research and have an idea of what you want before you buy it. : )

#1 Curling Iron!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I received my curling iron this week and even though I've only used it for a few days, I am loving it! I bought the Hot Tools Professional Curling Iron 1 1/2" barrel, which is the perfect size for larger curls and adding body to your hair. I've used Conair brand, same size barrel for over 10 years and every time I had to buy a new one, it was because the spring on them always gave out, the heat was always fine. This time I decided I was going to try a new brand, since I wanted a longer lasting one and being a big fan of Amazon, I done my research and this is the one I went for based on the mixed reviews and the awesome price. Here are some PROS: ** VERY HOT at the highest heat (For thick fine straight hair such as mine I need the hottest setting, and the curls feel so soft when done using it and adds nice body). ** Cord length is perfect, longer than Conair. ** Barrel thumb holder at the end is awesome, Conair doesn't have this feature to stick your finger in to hold the end of the barrel. ** End of the barrel holder is longer and helps not to burn delicate fingers. ** Swivel cord is very helpful. ** Definitely start at a low temperature and move the dial forward as you need to for the temperature setting you like. ** Hand grip is soft and comfortable. ********* The BONUS: 2 extra springs (Comes with directions of how to install them, with black and white step-by-stem photo process, seems easy). Now this makes having this curling a MUST for long term, especially when the spring is the first to go. Plus, the directions come with a mailer if you want to buy more springs at a rate of about $2.00 per spring (If you absolutely want more). OVERALL: For the price of this curling iron and the 2 additional springs that come with it, long term seems indefinite and it is an EXCELLENT DEAL!! Only question is how long does the temperature dial button, on/off switch, and heating element go out? That is the only question that arises when using this for years down the road... Here are some CONS: ** The location of the temperature button on the left side and the on/off switch on the right side take some getting used to for your fingers if your new to Hot Tools. It can be easy to turn on/off with your finger, which could cause some problems. Takes time to get used to having an on/off slider switch. ** The power indicator light is on the left side, where the temperature control dial is. The power light indicator is a light orange color, it's not that bright to signify the power is on. ** ONLY DOWNSIDE: The power light indicator stays a solid orange, does NOT signify when the curling iron is ready to use at your select temperature setting. The directions says it takes 60 seconds to heat up, but the power light indicator does not show the time it's taking to heat up. As a previous Conair user it was very handy to see when the curling iron was ready to use because the power light quit blinking to signify to the user that it was ready to use. **** Recommendation: A different power light indicator would benefit this curling iron, perhaps a better location at the top, in between the temperature dial and on/off power slide switch, a brighter light to indicate power, and some sort of blinking motion for the indicator power light to let the user know that it is ready and hot enough to use. A different on/off switch could help as well. Best wishes to any new Hot Tools curling iron users, I hope this review helps you to decide and ENJOY! :-)

Best Curling Iron EVER
This curling iron is the first Hot Tools product I bought back in 2002. I have used Hot Tools products ever since and would recommend their products to anyone!! First off and most important, the iron gets super hot...super fast. It works excellent on my thick hair and produces long lasting curls!! It does have an adjustment knob for lower temps if necessary. My first Hot Tools iron lasted almost 10 years without fail!! The iron comes with an extra spring and I did use that at some point but the only reason I finally bought a new iron was because I wanted a shiny new one. The barrel can be cleaned periodically...I just got lazy. (I used nail polish remover and a cotton ball to clean the barrel of product residue and it looked like new each time). You won't regret buying this iron or any of their other irons for that matter.

Do Not Buy!
***UPDATE!**** I was very happy with my new curling iron....until it died only a few months after I had purchased it-- it died in February, around Valentines Day. I mean, died as in completely dead, right before I was to leave on a trip (I went out of town sporting some really flat hair). I plugged it in one day and it remained cold as ice. I tried different outlets around my home to see if the GFI had tripped. But no, it was the iron. Keep in mind, I only used it two or three times a week in a home setting where it was plugged in for no more than 30 to 45 minutes at a time. Like most Americans, I am no longer surprised by what I call "The (Made In) China Syndrome," where electrical appliances have become almost disposable in nature. But even though I'm not surprised by these short-lived appliances, I am getting really sick of it. It's not so bad when a manufacturer will stand by their product and replace it without a hassle or undue cost. But that is not the case with HOT TOOLS. Their "warranty" consists of the consumer paying the shipping to send the item to them, PLUS enclosing a $5 check for return shipping, unless you live in CA where apparently they cannot legally charge you the $5 return shipping (all states should adopt this policy). I took the iron to the USPS where they told me it would cost just under $10 to return it. Plus I would have to send that other $5 in. So, it would cost me $15 to get a replacement for an item that is undoubtedly defective. I am thinking about going ahead and sending it back simply because I am sick of buying electrical products with what I have deemed are bogus warranties. Manufacturers realize that the expense and hassle of enforcing the warranty is probably not worth it. I am also getting tired of "The China Syndrome." If manufacturers insist on having their products made in China, they should step up quality control or offer a consumer-friendly warranty. Many companies do. Aside from going through the warranty process, Hot Tools is on my list of "never buy again." From now on, I will investigate a warranty before I buy anything electrical or stick to those reputable companies that offer a consumer-friendly warranty. Here is my original review: This has been one of the best buys I've made from Amazon. I always use "professional" curling irons at home on my unruly beach hair because they have higher heat settings, and that's what it takes to make any kind of lasting difference with my hair. When my 1.5 inch curling iron died after 6 years of daily use, I began looking to replace it. I considered paying close to $100 for a popular brand name, but after reading the description and reviews on this Hot Tools, decided to go with it instead, and at a substantial savings. Boy am I glad I did! This curling iron heats up in a flash and has/does everything I need. There is an adjustable heat setting and a swivel cord so styling is easy. There is no auto-off feature, which I like, so that the curling iron doesn't turn off if I can't get right to it (just have to remember to turn it off before leaving the house!). The 1.5 inch barrel is perfect for my mid-length hair. Like most people, I've tried turning my flat iron under to get a little bit of bounce or shape, because I don't look good with stick-straight hair. But a flat iron just doesn't do as good a job as a big-barreled curling iron and sometimes leaves a line. I also use a curling iron close to the roots to give my hair some lift, which I haven't been able to do with a flat iron. For everyday hair, it takes me about 5 to 7 minutes to get the look I want. For special occasions, I use small sections and setting "product" to do big, loose curls. It takes longer, maybe 20-25 minutes, but a 1.5 inch curling iron like this produces an excellent result. In short, this curling iron does everything I need it to do at a fraction of the price of that more expensive brand. What more could I ask for in a curling iron?

Curling iron is good but spring design is horrible
The perfect curling iron. Love the weight of it and how it curls my hair. I have fine hair but lots of it and it works perfectly for me. I've tried others and nothing compares. Updated Review: I'm not sure what happened with the new models but the spring in this is crap. I haven't had the curling iron but for a few months and the spring is messed up and scratching through the metal making it have issues closing properly when curling my hair. The curling iron is of no use if it isn't going to work properly and they can't come up with a better spring situation. Seems like a dumb problem to have that could easily be fixed.

The product was clearly used before. This is secondhand and stopped working after 1 use. Came with a USA plug as well.

Still my favourite 1.5 inch barrels!
I have thick asian hair, that can be very stubborn to holding a curl, and this iron has always done the trick without using too much heat! I had this iron originally years ago, but got sucked up into the world of YouTubers/haulers and consumerism and purchased curlers for $300+ .. a few years later , many many many dollars later and a few permanent ugly burn scars ... in back here with this iron. & for 60$ you cannot beat the quality an maneuverability of this iron! It’s so easy to use., effective , cheap and lasts for a long time ( from experience ) Highly highly highly recommend
