OTTERBOX Commuter Series Case for iPhone 5c - Retail Packaging - Black

I gave this 4 stars because, like my all previous otterbox cases, it offers good protection. Feels solid. I've had it 24 hours, and it has already absorbed a short drop with no damage to the phone or the case.I did not give it 5 stars because the fit was just a tad off. Where the inner silicon case fits into the hard plastic case, it did not line up perfectly. It is not a huge deal, but I noticed it. The reason I didn't deduct another star is because my 14 year old daughter, who the case is intended for, did not seem to notice or care. If it's not a big deal to her, then I'll leave it at 4 stars for the protection factor alone.It does take away from the sleek form factor of the phone, but just a little. I would say the Commuter is about the best compromise between form factor and protection. I personally have an Otterbox Defender for my Iphone, and while the protection is superior, it is also bigger and bulkier. I actually tried to talk my daugher into the Defender for her phone, but she wanted something slimmer. Commuter meets her needs, and mine (peace of mind in case she drops the phone).One other thing....since I have the Otterbox Defender for my Iphone, I didn't have to fool with putting on a screen protector since it is built into the case. Putting on the screen protector that comes with the Commuter was a bit tricky. It may have been me, but it did not seem overly intuitive, and the instructions weren't that much help. If you have experience putting on screen protectors, then it probably will be easy for you, but if you don't, just take your time and do it carefully. If I had to do it over again, I probably would have searched up a video showing the installation. Also know that it is screen protector in the sense that it protects the screen from scratches. It it not a hard plastic protector that would protect the phone from drops, like the Defender.

There appears to be no case with a consensus of good reviews, especially for the newer 5c. I was interested in protection against accidental bumps and drops, and looked into the iBlason and the Griffin products in addition to Otterbox. For protection, the Griffin Survivor Slim looks great with probably better protection, but I don't like the cover over the home button because these covers make it hard to bring up the pop up screen from the bottom. The Luvvitt also looked like a viable candidate for my less violent usage, but there were some negatives that lured me away and back to Otter (see Amazon reviews). Nothing against Luvvitt, just relatively speaking. Not planning on taking this phone into a combat situation, I wanted full access to the native screen. It comes with a nice adhesive screen protector but the Zagg (at a hefty $20) is a superior screen adhesive. I plan on using the native screen for resolution and touch sensitivity. The Commuter for 5c seems to fit the bill for good protection against typical mishaps with a nice functional look. No, it doesn't offer maximum of the bottom, but will protect against most falls against flat surfaces (e.g. floors) and the most common falls, corner hits. If I wanted max protection, I would not be complaining about this product; I would move on to theGriffin Survivor Heavy Duty (excellent) or Lifeproof (not avail. for 5c yet) case.Those who complain about the logo not aligning perfectly led me to believe half of it is cut off from side to side. Actually, the logo is fully visible and perfectly aligned laterally but slightly below center. If this literally unnoticable issue causes major problems, I can only suggest perhaps acquiring more pressing life problems (i.e. "get a life"). It actually looks fine.

So, I just got this case in the mail about 30 minutes ago. These are my initial thoughts. Amazon did a fantastic job in getting it to me quickly. I believe I just ordered it two days ago. (It's Christmas and I have lost track of what I ordered and when) The case came in its factory packaging. This being my first name brand case as opposed to a knock off, I am overall pleased. The fit is right on!!! I have had some experiences with a couple knock offs that fit loosely in the past. The apple logo was centered (for those that are concerned with this). While it adds some girth to the phone, it was both expected and needed. The case looks great and I believe that if I were to drop it from a reasonable height, it would be protected. There is one thing that looks like it wasn't as well thought out though. The bottom of the case is open and didn't have any plastic/rubber that connects from one side to the other. While it is kind of hard to explain, this appears to be a design flaw that will lead to the bottom edge of the inner core to come off and then will need to be replaced with a new case.

I was really happy to find a genuine Otterbox at a reasonable price for my iPhone 5C. My only complaint is that there is little protection if the phone is dropped on the area where the cables plug into the phone. On my case there is nothing but the soft rubber strips that bridge across this area. My sister has the same phone and ordered anb Otterbox case in purple from Amazon and it actually has the hard plastic bridging this area as well as the soft rubber strips. It also has soft rubber plugs to cover the ports, which adds even more strength and durability. Wish I'd known about one like this. For now I'm okay with the case I have but will definitely replace it when necessary with the stronger version. I did find the screen protector included with the case to be difficult to apply, so much so that I trashed it after several attempts to do a good job at it. I then ordered the Tech Armor Premium Antiglare and Antifingerprint screen protectors and so far I've been happy with this.

Very good and very good for the price

1. The seller of this OtterBox is the OtterBox company, so don't worry about thinking things like "it's on amazon, so I don't know if it'll be as good".2. The phone case looks exactly how it does in the photos. So where ever you see holes in the photos, that's where holes are on the case. The OtterBox is not fully covering your whole phone. On the back, it's open where the apple logo is and where the camera and flashlight are. This means that you may need to take the phone case off every now and then to clean the back of your phone. On the side, the switch to turn the ringer on and off is exposed as is the whole bottom part. No biggie.3. All buttons on the side are easily accessible. The case doesn't hinder this.4. I am notorious for dropping my phone. I love the OtterBox's because they protect my phone each time I drop it! And when I say I drop it...I drop it face down all the time, sometimes I'll be walking with my phone in my hand swinging my arms and then accidentally throw my phone. The OtterBox got me covered.5. I have previously owned the same OtterBox, but in a different colour, and they are amazing! I had owned the other one for three years and my phone was always in tact, the OtterBox did crack on the outside, but like I said, I drop my phone all the time. And even if the plastic outside does break, the box still works really well!6. I didn't use the protector screen that came with it because I already had one on my phone from the first OtterBox and I didn't feel like changing it.Overall, I highly recommend this phone case. It won't disappoint and it is worth the cash.Best of luck :)

Some reviews I rea on this case said that it didn't go on properly because of the screen protector but my case went on perfectly because the case and screen protector don't even touch. The case is very nice and very durable. Yes the color is slightly different but I actually like it better than the one in the picture above. Here is a picture of the case.

Case came very quickly using Amazon Prime. One small crease in the screen protector which prevented it from flattening fully on one corner.

My phone survived many drops with no damage, and then was run over by a car. The screen cracked but the phone still works. The case has a couple small dings but still looks great.

Highly recommended. It is very easy to use and yes, it protects the phone from all sorts of fall.
