Great Little Instrument
I've already ordered another for a friend, but this little fife is great. Once I swapped out the lip plate for the more flute-like one I was able to play right away using standard flute fingerings with a few adjustments. I think I will keep this out to play with when the mood strikes. I'd never do that with my flute or piccolo. I also have the Yamaha fife, but I like this Toot better. The keys make it much easier to get some of the chromatic notes out, which on the Yamaha require covering half the tone holes--a tricky technique. As to durability, time will tell, but there isn't much to break. I suppose a good fall might knock some of the little keys off or chip the plastic, but it seems pretty sturdy. Worth the $30.

I think I will make noise on purpose
I made a few Extremely 3AM purchases recently, and unlike many others, I don't regret these! I picked up the Toot, Dood, and jSax from Nuvo Instruments. So far I've enjoyed playing around with the Dood the most, though the Toot is the easiest to just pick up and play with its special lip plate. I figure the jSax is something I will work up to. I plan on picking up the jHorn at some point because it looks like a lot of fun to play. They were designed to be used in elementary classrooms, so they're sturdy and easy-to-clean. I find the silicon keys very tactility-pleasing. All of them are way less annoying to listen to than a recorder, in my opinion, but the Toot is higher pitched than the other two, of course. They're such a great value for the price. I'd recommend the Toot for as young as 4-5 years old, but saving the Dood until they have enough patience to get the hang of the embouchure. But for the price, I say get one for yourself! Making music is good for you.

Great for a young beginner
Great for beginner to start learning fingerings on flute, without having to set up a flute embochure. It also has a convertible lip plate wants to student can reach the level.

A+ for the price
Flutist/flute teacher review:Great way to get young ones started without a hefty purchase, and it fits their little hands. Great for what it is. Responds to dynamic contrast.Pros: Easy to hold, to get a sound out. Washable! Durable. Silicone keys mean no pads underneath to tear.Cons: Sound is a smidge recorder-ish, tuning is poor on non-C scale pitches. Fingering resembles recorder (no left pinky key, trill keys, resembles a recorder in that manner, except held to the side). Limited range of notes. With all the cons said, I consider this for a young student who may otherwise struggle even with a curved headjoint flute for its size and weight. I consider this for littles who might (and have) dented metal flutes or come into class with a rather gross, sticky flute because... they're kids. This is great for pre-school age.

Love nuvo!
A great way to find out if your child is going to stick with playing an instrument without committing to the purchase of the real thing. I played flute in school over 30 years ago and picked this up and took right off like it was the real thing. Great sound which was impressive.

A Nice Intro to Flute
Most of the things I read about the Nuvo Toot talked about it being aimed at children - but I am an adult clarinet player who was interested in learning flute. I got this for learning the embouchure before moving up to a real metal flute. I feel like it did its job and gave me a good head start. I think it's great to try this at any age if you want to test the waters of playing flute before spending a lot on a nice one. Also it's just fun to mess around with, and I love that it's silicone and plastic so I can throw it in a bag or leave it in the car and not worry about damage.

Perfect for beginners
My little one just started playing the flute and she's five. This is sturdy and can withstand all her growing pains. We've left it in the car, in her book bag, and it's still fine. A real metal one would have broken by now. I also like that you can change out the mouth piece once her skill level increases.

Perfect flute for pre-beginner band students!
My husband and I both have Bachelors in Music Ed. Our daughter desperately wanted a flute, but we knew she doesn’t quite have the lung capacity yet to fill one up. This is the perfect solution for a very young player. She’s getting a great sound and can eventually transition to the lip plate. Super fun, inexpensive option for an ambitious kiddo. Oh, and it’s pink. 😉

Lovely first toot, second one we purchased
This was recommended by my daughters music teacher. My daughter lost one in pink so we purchased a replacement one in blue and she loves it.
