Good Starter Instrument for Pre-Band Kids
I got this for my daughter to use in her school’s pre-band program, and it’s been a solid little starter instrument. It’s held up well so far — nothing has broken, which is impressive considering it gets tossed in and out of her backpack. It sounds a lot like a recorder (so it can definitely be a bit annoying), but for a pre-band kid it makes sense. It’s inexpensive, simple to use, and a useful tool for getting the basics down before moving on to a real band instrument.

Awesome first instrument flute
This thing is great. It doesn't quite sound like a flute, but it is a great intro instrument. It comes with a trainer mouthpiece installed that works more like a whistle, but gets the learner used to the position. It also comes with the normal flute style mouthpiece that you can swap out. The keys are flaps, which work well for beginners as well, making it approachable to start learning to play, rather than just how to hold and press things. It is fairly durable, but also comes in a pouch that protects it reasonably well. In short, this is an incredible value for a kid that wants to start learning.

Works!
Preschooler asked for a red flute for Christmas. Found this and I am impressed. It works well and is small enough for little hands. Not quite small enough for my child's hands, but not too far off. Sound is decent for a plastic instrument. I love that there is a training mouthpiece and a real one for later. All of it comes in a compact zipper case. Overall I'm very pleased with the quality and value.

A+ for the price
Flutist/flute teacher review: Great way to get young ones started without a hefty purchase, and it fits their little hands. Great for what it is. Responds to dynamic contrast. Pros: Easy to hold, to get a sound out. Washable! Durable. Silicone keys mean no pads underneath to tear. Cons: Sound is a smidge recorder-ish, tuning is poor on non-C scale pitches. Fingering resembles recorder (no left pinky key, trill keys, resembles a recorder in that manner, except held to the side). Limited range of notes. With all the cons said, I consider this for a young student who may otherwise struggle even with a curved headjoint flute for its size and weight. I consider this for littles who might (and have) dented metal flutes or come into class with a rather gross, sticky flute because... they're kids. This is great for pre-school age.

A Nice Intro to Flute
Most of the things I read about the Nuvo Toot talked about it being aimed at children - but I am an adult clarinet player who was interested in learning flute. I got this for learning the embouchure before moving up to a real metal flute. I feel like it did its job and gave me a good head start. I think it's great to try this at any age if you want to test the waters of playing flute before spending a lot on a nice one. Also it's just fun to mess around with, and I love that it's silicone and plastic so I can throw it in a bag or leave it in the car and not worry about damage.

GREAT little flue!
This thing is an absolutely fantastic little flute! It is reasonably weather resistant too, due to the plastic, so taking it camping is no big deal. It sounds great, looks neat, and is easy to play. The little case is handy for keeping it dust free between uses. It was a great price as well. I'd give it a couple of extra stars if I could!

Great for elementary aged kids and marching piccolos in extreme temperatures
I am so glad I learnt of the Toot! It'll make teaching littles a million times easier. I'm trialing their saxophone today. I do wish the toots fingerings were identical to a C flute but adjusting a few fingerings when they transition isn't the end of the world. Just would be a great feature if another version of the Toot is made! I am unsure if their JFlute has altered fingerings, but I believe the sax does not.

It’s worth buying, if you want a plastic fife.
I was pleasantly surprised by this little fife. For those who are not used to a transverse aperture, it has a whistle-like mouthpiece AND a regular flute-like mouthpiece. It comes with the whistle mouthpiece attached — and it sounds pretty good. (I’ll probably leave it on for a while.) Full chromatic scale, all the sharps and/or flats. Good price, too. If you’re looking for a fife, I recommend this little guy. Lots of fun.
