Five Ten Men's Camp Four Hiking Shoe

These are great approach shoes. The combination of the lug design and rubber compound works great all around and is especially good on wet rock. They worked great on a very rainy hike of Mt Snowden in Wales this summer. They fit a little small, at least for me. I had to go up one half size for the perfect fit.

Talked to a fella at Five Ten, and he said it didn't matter if I ordered from here or them directly. He asked me what I usually wore for hiking shoes, and I told him either Merrell or Vasque. The Camp Four shoe would be the same size as either of those. And he was right on. VERY soft and comfortable. I have hi arches, and these fit just fine. Some stated that there is a small toe box. I don't feel it is. So why not 5 stars? The main reason I got them was after reading an excellent review in Backpacker magazine. According to Five Ten their shoe bottoms will stick to just about anything WET: Roots, roots, what have you. So far I haven't had them on a wet surface, but once I do, I'll update. I personally can't stand Vibram soles. They stick to nothing. I've fallen more than once in my Merrells. I will never own a pr. of shoes or boots with Vibram soles again. Stay tuned....it has to rain, sometime. UPDATE: 8/3/15.....OK, these suck. After getting wet feet on the SHT, I got heel blisters on each foot, large blisters behind my toes, I lost my right big toenail, and about to lose my left one and right pinky nail. All of this and I only did 102 mi. of the trail. Like the review in Backpacker said along with other reviewers here, the toe box could be larger. I think they even shrunk once they got wet. BUT the soles worked extremely well on the wet rocks and roots. If only my Merrells had these soles.

As an avid hiker, I initially thought highly of this hiking shoe. It provided excellent traction, it did well on different terrain (hard packed dirt, mud, shale, etc.) & was comfortable as far as hiking footwear. But then things literally fell apart. After roughly a year of use, the sole of the shoe delaminated from the rest of the shoe (see attached photo) mid hike. Fortunately this happened on a day hike & I was reasonably close to my car. If I had been in the middle of a week long backpacking trip, I would have been screwed. I’m disappointed that a pair of $100+ hiking shoe has such poor construction & lack of durability. Five ten please work with Adidas and improve your manufacturing standards.

As a forest scientist, I spend my life in my boots. On average, I go through 2-3 pairs per year. Today, I received my first pair of FiveTen Men's Camp Four Hiking Shoe and they are very comfortable. i like sticky-soled approach shoes for tree climbing and rock scrambling, but it is very hard to find approach shoes in my size (14). These fit the bill very nicely. It remains to be seen how they wear over the next year. Typically, I buy 2 pairs of boots and alternate them so they don't get too funky. Compared with other boots I've worn in recent years, these are lighter in weight, flexible but with good support, and comfortable right out of the box. The laces go almost to the toe, so it was fairly easy, with a few minutes of effort, to get the right fit in the toe box.
