Here is why this one is better: Small footprint. I can set it up and wind in a very small area. My other has a huge yarn guide that extends out about 12 inches. I have to put the winder on one end of the table and my swift on the other to make it work. Quiet and smooth. My other has metal gears and is super loud. I have to take it out to the garage every time I want to wind. It also sticks a lot, which means I have to oil it. Which means when I use it, oil flies everywhere. Stable yarn guide. It collapses for storage from side to side other than up and down, so if for some reason it does come loose, the yarn is still basically in same position. It has a very simple way of locking that means you would not have to hold the yarn guide with your other hand. The guide on my other is held with a wing nut that constantly comes undone unless I awkwardly get in there with a pair of pliers to tighten it. Safely clamps to the table. I use blue painters masking tape around the end of the yarn that comes out the center, so my wife can find it easily. She leaves the rubber band on while using, helps the cake keep it shape as it gets to the end and doesn't collapse on itself. You need to find the right size/tension rubber band, not too loose, or tight. I use the Advantage size #32 (3" x 1/8") rubber bands sold at Wal@$t; just right for the diameter of the cake on this spindle.
