Asus Eee PC 1001PX-MU20-BK 10.1" LED Netbook - Atom N450 1.66 GHz - Black 1001PX-MU20-BK 766 Review: Great product, which could be even better - It could be 5 stars easily. The laptop (netbook) can be greatly improved by a small SSD and 2GB of RAM. The device with it's original software is responsive, but the original software is not Windows and is not Ubuntu. With the hardware spec this machine has it struggles with anything else, but Chrome. Install latest Gnome or Firefox, open a couple of tabs and you will see just another low end PC. ASUS, add another $50 to the price and let this box come with small SSD (30GB or 60GB) instead of the spinning HD and 2GB of DDR and this machine will be a viable alternative for much more users. Responsiveness of the machine can improved significantly by relatively cheap upgrade. Unfortunately I do not see $300 (I am cheap and I have purchased the used unit for $170) products with SSD from ASUS. Reasonable LCD and external monitor can be 1280x1024. I did not test higher resolutions. At 1280x1024 you can not have both LCD and external monitor (not in Ubuntu anyway) and have to choose between it's own LCD and external. Here comes longer list of the cons - all minor mind you. * Weight - this box feels heavy. At 4.6 pound it is heavier than Asus 13.3 i5 Ultrabook (2.9 pound). Common Asus you can make 10" Atom based PC under 3 pounds. * Lacks option with SSD, hard drive is relatively slow - I would gladly pay $30 more for a small SSD. Replace the HD by an SSD will cost me $60 * 1GB RAM - You will have to install light weight desktop manager. The PC is not in KDE or Gnome league. Gnome works, but you are not going to enjoy instant start/switching between the applications. For ASUS there is not much difference between 1G or 2GB. For me to buy 1GB compatible memory is yet another $20 Bottom line - very good if your goal is light use or a dedicated application, like running a slide show on a large external display. Update. Installed "ADATA USA Premier Pro SP600 2.5-Inch 32 GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive" and "2.0GB (2048MB) Samsung Original PC2-6400 DDR2 800MHz SO-DIMM 200 Pin Memory Module" for total $74 including tax and shipment. The PC is flying. Dear ASUS, please start to produce small PCs with small SSDs. Replace the disk and upgrade RAM costs $60-70 and it is really pain to open the laptop. Review: Deceiving - I ended up returning this item. I was under the impression that it included windows; The netbook does not have an operating system and is really worthless. I went to a big box store to find another netbook. desertcart was great with the return, however, and worked with me in resolving the issue! Update: I am adjusting my review due to a comment made that enlightened me on the technical details of this item; I am giving it four stars due to shipping being great and the item being as described; however, the quality of the item was not as expected and I would advise someone to look elsewhere for a netbook computer.

Overall
Good little netbook. To date, however, we are experiencing difficulty hooking it up onto skype. This may well be because we are not computer experts, anything but - our concern is that it just might not have the capacity for skype. However, we will get help with this so cannot say categorically right now that this is not possible. Very easy to use re keyboard and if we can get the skyping problem sorted (our main reason really for purchase!) we shall be delighted!

Wasn't for us.
Probably a great tablet for a more "techy" dude, but it wasn't loaded with Windows, and to do so would've cost extra to have our local computer tech do that. Had to send it back.
