It's Not For Modern HDMI and Digital Connectons.
I own an LG 50 inch plasma with Toslink digital out. I had to buy a DAC to use this for my ZVOX 550. When I would shut off the TV, this device got confused without a signal, and a loud hum/noise came from my ZVOX. It worked okay when the TV was on. I eventually bought the SRS HDMI sound leveler with much better results. This device is for older analog systems. It hasn't been updated for the new digital world.

This "Sound Regulator" Does just what they claim. Be sure to connect this between your Tv and the source such as the set top box for your cable or sat. I cound not get it to work between the tv and a stereo. Seemed just to much for it. Therefore only three stars.

Sound regulator works sometimes
I rate the product a 2 star device because it only works properly about 1/3 of the time. On our local TV newscast it does not work at all. Approximately 2/3 of the time it helps some.Would I recommend it? probably not at $47 and change.Would I buy it again? It is better than nothing and is the only thing that works somewhat to level the annoying commercials that are twice as loud as the program I am viewing. Too bad it does not work at all on the local evening news.It is very easy to install.

Works fairly well
I bought this sound regulator for my father who can't hear well. When he turns up the volume to hear dialog, the louder parts of the movie become far too loud. Wake up Hollywood! Not everyone wants knocked out of their chairs. This device works somewhat at leveling out the sound. It's not perfect, but we can definitely hear a difference. As others have noted, it makes an odd electrical arcing sound when it first comes on. That doesn't seem to hurt anything. We've been using it for over a year now and it still seems to work fine.-----------------Well, it's been a couple years and the regulator is still working for my father's satellite TV setup. I recently bought a second one for his DVD player. My one gripe is the price increase of 67% within two years. I would have switched to another brand and almost did, but I was in a hurry at the time. I would not by another one at the current price.

The one to buy
If you have looked for these products on the internet, you'll find many, selling for much more. This is a great value, and the one to buy, for these reasons. I first bought the Terk unit, and it had, as another person stated, some pops in the audio when volume level would change. So I returned that one and bought this one. The item works great. This may not be the same with other users, but when it is on without source audio, the volume level increases to the point where there's a hum. That shows it's working, and that hum goes away when you start viewing something. Also, as you are watching and listening, you will hear the volume increase in the quiet scenes, but then when there is loudness,it quickly reduces to the right volume. I was going nuts watching Netflix movies without this unit. Constantly increasing and decreasing volume, but since I installed this unit, I haven't had to adjust the sound even once. A good example is that annoyingly loud MGM lion roar, which is always louder than the movie. You can still set your initial volume level if need be, but it remembers whatever you have set. Also, keep in mind that you can use this item for more than one application, by using a video/audio splitter,so I have it working for my Roku Netflix, and then for my DVD machines, which are together hooked up to their own video audio splitter. I've had the unit for about a month now, so let's hope it gives me years of service. By the way, it doesn't have an on/off switch, so it wouldn't hurt to run it into a power strip where you can turn it off and on. It may not be necessary, but I always do it anyway.

For us, this did not work out
This didn’t work for us. We sent it back, did some research and found something else that worked. It was by LEMONKTV I think is the brand name. Not sure if I got it right, but it worked for us. My husband had to work with it, but got it to work. I’m not knocking anyone’s hustle selling stuff on Amazon, but if something don’t work out, I’m gonna be honest about my experience.

This is the only volume regulator/normalizer I've found that actually works!
I tried every other volume level regulator device I could find and NONE of them worked worth a darn. You couldn't even tell they were adjusting the volume levels at all. This one actually works for me. The source volume I'm using is the output of my projector, which is set at max volume and it's output, inputs into this ICS regulator. The output of this ICS regulator then goes to my speakers, which is what I use to set the listening volume I want. Once I set the speaker volume to the comfortable level I want, this regulator will amplify the really low volumes such as when people are talking softly which I had trouble hearing a lot of the time without this regulator in place. And most importantly, when those massively loud scenes come up, such as in movies when action scenes and explosions, etc, are happening, this regulator tones down the volume so it doesn't blow me away.... thank God!So basically, I adjust the volume I want when I start a new movie or a new channel on my cable, and then don't have to adjust it any more, and both the low volume scenes and the obnoxiously loud scenes are now comfortable to listen to. So this is the ONLY regulator I have found that actually does what it claims to be able to do! I think I tried every other possible sound/volume regulator/normalizer that is available on Amazon before I finally found this one.
