Does this bag fit in the overhead bins of an commercial airliner?

I fly a lot but have not used it for that. I would estimate that it would be larger than the size check frame, but because of its soft sides would fit fine into a large commercial aircraft overhead. It would never fit into a regional jet overhead. Despite my slight panning of it in my review, I actually have found this bag to be very useful.

What are the dimensions of this bag? Is it durable enough to check it on a plane trip?

I believe the dimensions from previous answer are correct, 24" X 15" X 13". I like the bag and it is made of fairly durable material, but if it were me, I would prefer not to check this on a plane.

Is it big and sturdy enough for a bowling ball & shoes and maybe a spare shirt?

This bag is exceptionally strong and well made. I currently own two and one for my daughter. I have all of my survival equipment in the bag. about 50/60 pounds. There is lots of room even after that. I could fill it up but that would be too heavy for me. I can't tell you how big it is. I was surprised because I didn't check before I ordered it. It takes two bags to carry all my emergency equipment, first aid, coleman stove, water purifier, packages of dried food, water, emergency cover, lanterns, matches, a tarp, markers, mini stove and little fire starters, a knife, so much stuff. You should order 2, they are awesome.
