Why does this contain peas, wheat flour, narigold, and ash which most fish never eat?

The Pea Protein is a highly digestible vegetable protein source which helps to supplement protein levels. A small amount of Wheat is necessary in Omega One products to help bind it together, but Omega One contains significantly less starch than other brands of fish food. The Marigold Meal is a carotenoid source which enhances pigmentation and supports healthy growth. Ash is not an ingredient, but rather a measure of the mineral content of the ingredients. This mainly comes from grains, yeasts, and other plants and can also come from the bone content in fishmeal. Omega One contains no fishmeal – only the highest quality seafoods and also the lowest amounts of starch of any dry fish food. This means our ash is extremely low, and will therefore help you maintain cleaner water and a healthier aquarium.

what is the shelf life of the flake food?

I'm not sure what the shelf life is, but if you have a lot of fish this is a good food, they eat it up. Just guessing, 1 to 1.5 years at best for life. I had an old bottle of it and they still eat it and that was from about two years ago from a 2.2 oz can of it. If you have only a few fish, get the smallest can.

Is this good for goldfish?
