worlds best cookbook for desserts
Thanks to this book I may never buy another cookbook again! There are SO many recipes in here that I've made and loved - chocolate cherry cookies, blueberry scones, etc etc. For the last few years, I've been trying to make the 'best' scones that rival a local bakery that charges an arm and a leg for their scones. Well guess what - now I make scones that are even better than theirs thanks to the recipe in here. For that alone, I will always treasure this book. Even the way the recipes are written are great - like you have friend telling you what to do and the pictures are super helpful and inspiring. I can't stop baking :) help!

Wonderful concepts and recipes.
Originally found this cookbook at my library and loved it so much I wanted to have a copy for quick reference. My only complaint is that Iβve found the recipes are often improved with mild tweaks to my personal taste. For example, the cheddar apple turnovers- the apple filling recipe was improved with spices and seasoning to taste. But that is all personal preference. The recipes and concepts are amazing. And I love how itβs broken down by different types of winter produce. All the apples are together. All the citrus is in a different section.

Amazing desserts and fun to read
As I write this, the pear crostada is cooking. It smells divine. I usually don't make desserts that require I make a crust but this was so easy. I made the parsnip cupcakes a few days ago. And they tasted similar to carrot cake. Bravo. I love Tammy's blog (foodonthefood) so I wanted to try her cookbook. It surpassed my expectations. Plus the photos are beautiful!Update on 2/5/2014I bought copies for my mother and sister - they both raved. My mother made the lemon bars and my uncle (who formally prided himself on his own lemon bars) said these were the best he'd ever had.Today is a snow day so with the kids home all day, it seemed time to bake. Wintersweet is our new "go to" cookbook. My son (age 10) picked the quark coffee cake (we sub'd sour cream) and he helped make it. My only issue is the second to last line which says "cool before serving" - what? With all that delicious smelling cinnamon? We couldn't wait and ate it hot.I had some left over pears so I also made the pear sorbet. It was my first time - I shied away because of the wine which I thought the kids wouldn't like - but the alcohol cooks out and it tastes amazing! So thanks again Tammy.

Tammy's blog is consistently hilarious -- she swears like a sailor -- and her recipes have never let us down. We were excited to see Wintersweet hit the shelves, and it did not disappoint. We're actually using it as solace for the looming New England winter (yeah, it's only August, but as Tammy herself might say, it's been a sh*tty year).Anyway, the recipes. The beet and ginger ice creams represent fascinating changes of pace, the Mexican chocolate cake (with ground almonds in place of flour) is perfect for my gluten-allergic sister, the chocolate chip cheesecake bars scream Christmas, and the book is worth the sales price alone for introducing quince to our palates. The cooking tips are well presented and cleverly written. The photos pop. And the book fills a niche for a season, region, and class of ingredients that have gotten short shrift. Highly recommended!

Not at all what I imagined it to be
I didn't see anything really "new" here, just the flavors changed to reflect what was trendy a few years back. Seemed to be almost all pastry and chocolate, very little with fruit. Your mileage may vary.

Favorite winter cookbook!!
This is a flat-out excellent cookbook. Pondering what to make for dessert one evening, with piles of apples and pears begging to be baked, I opened up Wintersweet and immediately found five recipes that I wanted, desperately, to make and to eat. And I had everything on hand. No obscure ingredients, no fussy techniques. Just good, solid recipes for when it's so cold that all you want to do is keep the oven on all day. The lovely anecdotes and useful information make this my favorite cookbook of the year.

For the dessert chef within buy Wintersweet
I have made one recipe so far and I am making another one tomorrow. I made the "CAST IRON APPLE CAKE WITH MAPLE BROWN BUTTER" and it was heavenly! I think I could eat it everyday. The recipes are easy and you usually have all the ingredients you need unless it might be a seasonal fruit to pick up but it is illustrated nicely and I really like the recipes so far. My next recipe is for the Peanut Butter Blondies. I will upgrade my review later on.

great winter dessert book
excellent book for winter desserts, most dessert books seem to use summer fruits so this fills a hole in my shelf! - all the recipes tried so far work well and am looking forward to trying more
