DHXL Fishing Reel

This is an award winning design created by Doug Hannon, the "Bass Professor". The design eliminates line tangles and enables the fishermen to make longer casts. One of the most frustrating and time consuming tasks wasting time is trying to remove reel tangles or "bird nests". Doug set out to eliminate that time waster and developed this revolutionary spool design. I love this reel and recommend it to all who want to keep their line in the water the entire time fishing. Sitting on the boat seat or shore bank "finger picking" out a mess of mono running every which direction never catches any fish.Now for the reel specifics: Line Capacity - 330/ 2 pound mono or 8 pound braid.200/ 4 pound mono or 14 pound braid.160/ 6 pound mono or 20 pound braid.In addition to the above features, it has a 5.1:1 Gear Ratio and it weighs 8 ounces. It has a superior drag system and a package of extra drag washers in the box should you need to replace them. The front drag system has 10 components to it. The handle will switch from right to left, it has a over-sized Bail Roller, Infinite Anti-Reverse, and a full 2 YEAR WARRANTY. There are 7 + 1 Stainless Steel Ball Bearings in this reel. It has a functional and effective line keeper. The company really wants you to be happy with their product.It should also be noted, that if you think you may put this to any salt water use, the bearings are sealed and thus approved for salt water. This does not mean that you do not need to rinse, clean, and oil the reel after ocean use. No bucket dumping but a spray of fresh water to dissolve the salt deposits and a corrosion inhibitor as is common with all salt water reel and rod routine "after use" maintenance.Remember also that this reel is in that cherished "under $75.00 class" so as to meet the needs of a majority of sportsmen and yet be professional and effective when "the fight is on".Hope this helps those who are trying to make a decision.

Let me start off by saying that I am a big fan of Wave Spin products; in fact before this order I already had a DHXL real and another Wave Spin real on top of that. After i Purchased my first Wave Spin I loved it so much that these are the only reals I will buy. Cant beat the price and the quality. Except for this last purchase off Amazon! The DHXL may look the same as my other one but it does not feel the same! It feels like absolute junk! Right out of the box the real made a grinding noise every rotation of the handle. This reel even feels like junk compared to my other one. The DHXL I bought Last year was nice and smooth, didn't make a sound.Either Wave Spin is getting Cheap and turning a good product into junk, or Amazon sells refurbished reels as new ones. Either way I am going to make a return. Go to Cabelas if you want to buy a wave spin reel. It may cost more but it will last!!

Worked ok as far as not getting tangles but other than the "teeth" it was no better than a generic walmart or similar reel. The material is actually pretty cheap. The gold plating chips very easily. Also doesn't hold a lot of line.

Received the reel as described and it seemed to be ok upon opening the box. The reel though wasn't operating as well as expected. The bearings seemed to be binding a little. I ended up disassembling it and cleaning what seemed to be a large amount of gear grease as though someone had overdone servicing it. Not what I'd expect from a new unopened box reel. That's why 3 stars. Cleaning it fixed the issue, and it's working ok for now. I've only had it for a few months, but it's a great reel.

I wanted to give this reel 5 stars but it has a slight, but noticable, tight spot when cranking the handle. This is not a problem for me as I know what the problem is and know how to work on all types of reels. I can correct the reel in a few minutes time, however this might be a problem for most customers who are not knowledgable about a reel's internal workings. More than likely it would correct itself with a break in period of use without adjustment, but QC at the factory should have caught and adjusted the reel before letting it out the door. Otherwise this product is topnotch in every way and is one of the most well thought out products in it's class, easily comparing to much pricier reels. It even comes with spare parts to replace ones that typically wear with use. The drag is top of the line, the reel casts great and handles fish nicely, much like a larger reel would. I also have used Wavespin 3000 and 5000 sizes. The DHXL is the best of the bunch. There is not much room for improvement on this product since the designers addressed about everything when making this reel. They just need to watch their quality control because it would be a shame for one of the best spinning reels on the market to disappear from the market due to customers becoming frustrated over small QC blunders. This is one of my favorite spinning reels.

Great little reel, solid construction and it definitely cuts down on the bird's nest tangles for Junior.

I like everything about this reel except what it claims NOT to do. I cannot get more than 3 casts without the line looping over the drag adjustment knob. I have read other online reviews about the Wavespin and just don't understand how they can be 5 star glowing reviews. In short, it will frustrate the heck out of you untangling it every 3 or 4 casts.

Make sure the spool is full for best casting distance. The handle does not always flip the bail smoothly requiring some effort. I usually had to flip the bail manually. The spool design appears to eliminate line tangles, but I am using braided line. I have not used it alot.
