The Impossible Patriotism Project (Rise and Shine)

I was looking for books to help my 6 year old son learn about patriotism and love for America since it’s absent from his school experience. This book was perfect, sweet, and simple and it opened up good conversation. It gave an opportunity to talk about what soldiers sacrifice to defend the American ideals and why they are worth defending.

This book is great for young children with a parent in the military. We bought this along with other similarly themed books for our oldest two children,5&3, before their dad left to go back after HBL. Warning moms and dads it has the ability of bringing tears to your eyes as you read about the little boy's struggle but in the end your tears are out of happiness for his realization. Helps to instill the mission, love and support of being a military family and our sacrifice for patriotism. I would recommend this book to anyone getting ready to leave on deployment or for basic with small children.

With all the media attention to what the United States "shouldn't" be doing, it's wonderful to find a children's story that shows what patriotism is and who the real patriots are. Make sure your local library has this book - especially for story hour. It's not just for the 4th of July but all year long. The United States is a free country with freedom of speech because men and women were willing to risk their lives to keep it free and to help those in other countries who can't fight for themselves.The whole story and the great illustrations make this a "must have" book for any child's book collection - or for their parents' too!

What a fantastic book! I used it for a story STEAM class. The kids created something of their own to represent patriotism after listening to the story. It was perfect!

My grandson who is eight is into history and loved the book! He is really interested in presidents, like Abe Lincoln.

I can't say enough about this book. It should be on the shelf of every home and library. Touching. It brought me to tears on the last page. Linda Skeers has written an amazing story that is blended with illustrations that speak to the heart.

This story is both timely and touching! If you're celebrating a patriotic holiday, this is the book for you. It begins when a teacher assigns her students to create a project for Parents' Night that shows what it means to be patriotic. As each student comes up with an idea, the main character, Caleb, just can't think of the perfect project. Soon the reader learns that Caleb's father is serving in the military and won't be at Parents' Night. Then he gets a great idea. With an emotional ending, this book is sure to be a hit.

Book arrived on time with no problems. Fantastic book for my children.
