With either the hand or power tool, assemble the extrusion and lens and wrap painters tape around it where the cut will be made. The tape lets you mark exactly where the cut belongs, holds the lens on the channel, and reduces any tendency for the edge of the lens to micro-shatter and become ragged (its saw and blade dependent, many won't anyway). When I can I use a 10" compound mitre slide saw, but it puts a lot of glitter (aluminum flakes) in the air. When that would make me unpopular I use a razor saw. I prefer #4 stainless flat head Philips screws, 3/8" long for wood, 1" for going through 1/2" plasterboard or wallboard into the stud at the top of the wall (always present) or the strapping in a ceiling but only 1/2 the ceiling edges will have a continuous strip, the other half will be like spaced apart like studs in a wall. 1/2" of screw into the stud isn't much, but very little weight is being supported.
