The 5th Dimension: Travelling Sunshine Show

If You Like This Group...
If you like this group, this DVD is fun from top to bottom. The original and best known members are here with special guests who would be A-listers on anyone's special. The video quality is not the best, but the songs more than make up for that. I gave this as a gift to a co-worker who, like me, remembered the Fifth Dimension in their heyday and she loved it.

Lots of fun
You probably have to be a 5th Dimension fan to really appreciate this video of their one television special. Among the performers were the Carpenters, Dionne Warwick, and Merl Haggard. I'm not much for Haggard, but the performances by the 5th Dimension, the Carpenters, and Dionne Warick were all terrific, including the Catpenters introducing a new single, "Superstar".The DVD arrived ahead of schedule, and was very high quality. The person I gave it to for Christmas was thrilled.

Like Going back in a time machine!
I always loved the 5th Dimension growing up and never knew they did this TV special! Just like all the 70's shows of this type, it's a little corny but this group always sounded fantastic. And Loved seeing the carpenters and Dionne Warwick as well! If you like retro TV like I do this is a find!

Features Karen Carpenter
I'll buy anything with Karen Carpenter pretty much... it's cool to see how the old TV shows were put together. Not the BEST DVD in the world. 5 stars come from Karen being featured.

Meh, it's okay.
Fun and campy way to kill a little time without hurting anyone. Correction: The DVD lists one of the Carpenters' songs as "Someone Like You," and I must say one of the reasons I purchased the DVD is that it appeared to contain a Carpenters song I'd not heard before. Alas, 'twas not to be. "Someone Like You" is actually the Carpenters cover of "Reason To Believe," which was almost released as a single by A&M.

Just OK for fans nostalgic for the "good old days"
For nostalgic fans of the group only. Merle Haggard is on hand to sing a "patriotic" song (what else?), and once more Karen Carpenter sings--or rather, lip-syncs--"Superstar" in her usual chaste outfit (no wonder the guy never showed-up again). As for 5th Dimension involvement, they sing only a medley of their hits at the end of the show, which docks it a star. As for the DVD quality, it is a DVD-R from one of those video companies that comes out of left field digging up these lost "treasures" from YouTube or somewhere, with quality not always achievable despite claims of "remastering." I would say that the video quality of this release, while not exactly "good," is (slightly) better than expected--meaning not too "fuzzy"--enough not to dock it another star.
