## Overview

This set includes 10 unique medium-sized fluorescent mineral specimens, each measuring approximately 1 to 2 inches. These rocks react to shortwave UV light, showcasing vibrant colors and are labeled with their identification and extraction location, making them perfect for educational purposes or as striking display pieces.

## Description

This fluorescent mineral specimen set has a great variety of UV reactive rocks/minerals. The 10 medium sized minerals included with the set measure approximately 1 to 2 inches or more in length. Most are nice sized chunks, but some run a little thinner than others, depending on the type of rock. The specimens vary but commonly included minerals are: Willemite, Fluorite, Calcite, Chalcedony, and Hydrozincite. Fluorescence of minerals of the same type can vary depending on the location it was extracted from. For example, you may receive 3 different calcites; one may fluoresce blue under shortwave light while another fluoresces red or yellow. Examples of common minerals included are shown in the pictures. All mineral rocks are identified with a label and are bagged individually. ALL the rocks in this set WILL glow with the proper shortwave (258nm) light. We test the fluorescence of all rocks before shipping them. You will NOT receive any rocks that do not glow! If all you have is a blacklight FLASHLIGHT, these rocks are NOT for you! You MUST have a fluorescent bulb filtered SHORTWAVE (258nm) UV light to see these colors! ATTENTION: TYPICAL BLACKLIGHTS WILL NOT DISPLAY ANY COLOR. YOU MUST HAVE A GOOD MINERAL LAMP. Also, the intensity of the color will vary depending upon the strength of the lamp that you have. We do NOT recommend using a "wand" type shortwave lamp, nor any longwave or "blacklight" lamp for these rocks, as they may NOT show satisfactory (or any) color with those inferior lamps. Commonly included minerals: Variations of Willemite (Green/White under sw), Fluorite(Blue/Purple under sw/lw), Calcite (Blue, Orange, Red, Yellow, or White under sw & Pink under lw), Chalcedony (Green under sw), and Hydrozincite (Blue under sw) - Colors are demonstrated in product images. Some of the packs have a bag of sand from areas where the sand is UV sensitive.

Review: You need a special shortwave lamp, NOT a blacklight - I initially wrote a negative review of this product as these rocks didn't glow under black light. The seller has been very responsive and since then I have educated myself about the difference between shortwave UV lamps and regular old black lights. Unfortunately, the former seem to be very hard to find on desertcart (if they are sold on desertcart at all, maybe I'm not searching using the correct keywords). I was only able to find the necessary high-quality shortwave lamps on specialty science or hobbyist sites. Please just be aware of the difference between these lamps BEFORE you purchase. These particular rocks will NOT fluoresce under blacklights, although there are other kinds of minerals that WILL glow under blacklight. I unfortunately can only give 3 stars because I don't have the right kind of lamp, so I don't actually know how well these fluoresce. But the seller gets points for customer service and responsiveness. I wanted to write this review because judging from some of the other reviews here, I am not the first to make this mistake.
Review: 2 stars for 40% of the minerals being even "slightly" fluorescent. Bummer. - I'll reiterate... 2 stars for 40% of the minerals being even "slightly" fluorescent. Bummer. Not worth it!

### ⭐ Does not glow
*by C***B on August 31, 2024*

These stones do not glow under black light, uv light or any other light. They totally misrepresented this product.
