The outer covering of the case has a nice texture and feel. The pencil fits snugly and I feel confident that I would not loose it if I were to drop the case. I also feel confident that the case will do a good job of protecting the iPad as well. My only complaint now that I've owned the case for about two months is that when the case is closed, the top doesn't perfectly sit straight on the device.
