Can this be used in 170f degree water?** A: it can be used under 85 degree celsius **Q: How many amps at 12 vdc?** A: This is a switch, so it is either on or off as a short circuit and should draw no amps on its own. It is rated at 10W. Using the formula P=I*V, your maximum amps would be I = P/V = 10watts/12volts = 0.833amps. **Q: Is the switch open when up and closed when down?** A: It is either because you can remove the clip under the float and invert the float.
