Being able to stand on the same surface as what you’re hitting off of makes a big difference. The mat unrolled well from the box. There was one minor ridge that disappeared after the first few days of use. I also like the cups for a few reasons: 1) you can place them wherever you want, giving you the ability to alternate between short and long distance putts without moving your feet, something I’ve felt very useful for putting weight training. 2) they are held down with velcro and don’t move unless you pull them straight up with some force. 3) since I have the mat laid on a hard flooring, there is no loud knock when the ball goes in which would have been the case had they been dug out holes like I saw on some other mats.
