I use it so that I can swap filters when cleaning is needed as it make the change go quicker and also allows time for the used one to dry ahead of next required cleaning. I think doing this may extend the life of both filters but time will tell. I had read previous reviews on this brand filter at the start it was ok because my water was already clear. Recently I have had issues with murky pool that would not clear up. I decided to put back on the hayward brand back on that was a 2 year old filter I had previous to this one that was at least 1 year and some used. Well my old filter did a night and day difference that I had to write this review. It's best just to get the original and don't be cheap. My water is clear back again just a few days after putting an old hayward filter.. ain't that something.... and this should not be. I'm sorry but these are facts first hand!!!! lesson learned. This filter allows dissolved particles back into your pool..
