Noticeable Results and a Must-Have for Cleaner Dishes
Iโll admit Iโd never heard of dishwasher salt before, but after trying this reactivation salt, Iโm completely convinced it makes a real difference. Since using it, my dishes and glassware come out spotless with no cloudy film, no mineral buildup and the inside of my dishwasher looks cleaner than it has in years. The coarse grains dissolve evenly, and itโs easy to add to the salt compartment without spills or mess. Itโs clear this product helps protect both the dishwasher and the dishes from limescale, especially in areas with hard water. Count me in as a believer. This simple step has noticeably improved results and maintenance. If you own a dishwasher, this salt is absolutely worth it.

Los Angeles hard water woes!
Los Angeles water is hard, hard, hard. I've struggled for years to clean beautiful fixtures, crusted with mineral deposits. I have a salt water pool filter, which works great AND a whole house salt water softener until i learned how bad it is, healthwise and paid to have it removed. I won't go into that since I'm sure there are people who disagree but you can Google it. Point is, when it comes to nondrinking water, Los Angeles hard water minerals are hard on fixtures and appliances. The interior of my two drawer dishwasher (that I thought would be so wonderful but was terrible) was forever stained with white mineral deposits The performance of the dishwasher was affected to the point where we practically had to wash the dishes before loading it. I tried every recommended detergent, particularly the European ones which seemed better but still didn't solve the problem. I finally broke down and replaced the two drawer model with a 1 door Miele. As others have said, I decided to use Miele's collection at least for a while. So far, GREAT results! I'm a bit confused because Miele's care collection recommends all 3 products YET the manual says salt and rinse aid is not needed if you use a combination tablet; AND the tablets that are part of the collection say on the box that they ARE combination tablets. So which is it? Do we use salt and rinse aid with a Miele tabs or NOT? As of now I'm using the entire Collection together. I've only been using them a few days so clearly I don't know what I'm talking about....looking to learn more. UPDATE 2020 after a few years ... The whole kitncaboodle works great! I have been using Mieleโs products since day 1 - salt, rinse aid and combination tablets. The machine works like a charm, is a dream washing machine and I wonโt change a thing. It ainโt broke so Iโm not gonna fix it.

Can't find a credible source telling me its safe to use a substitute salt, so I'm buying and useing this one!
I've used this salt before, but I'm not sure if it correlates to cleaner dishes. I will pay more attention this time and report results. In the meantime, there seems to be alot of confusion and recommendations about whether this expensive salt is necessary, or can cheaper substitutes be used. I, for one, hate when I'm forced to use a product by the manufacture and acceptable subsitutes are available. This happens in the automotive world alot. Typically, there are specs that can be met, but often are not in substitutes. Consider motor oil. Some motors are very sensitive to not only the grade of oil, but its properties that aren't captured in the grade alone. Think Porsche or BMW M motors. (google ims failure to see what i mean)Most others are more tolerant. It all depends on how deep your knowledge is about the product in question. So on to the salt issue. Here is a reproduction from (erkenswater.com) regarding water softening salt: "What type of salt should I use?" "Solar salt (evaporation of seawater) contains slightly more water insoluble material than (evaporated salt from caverns) pellets. If your system regenerates frequently these insoluble materials will build up in the brine tank and need to be cleaned out. If your regeneration time is less frequent these products could be used interchangeably." BTW, rock salt is mined and has more inpurities than either solar or evaporated salt. "Rock salt is less expensive in the store. Will it work in my softener? Rock salt will work in a softener; however, because of the relatively high level of water insoluble matter it is not recommended. If used the brine tank will need to be cleaned several times a year depending on the purity of the salt. It appears that the purity of the salt will affect the water softening mechanism of a large residential softening system, and I infer that it may affect the small softening system of the dishwasher too. I have no idea how I might clean the brine tank of my Miele dishwasher, so I'm going with the manufacturer's salt on this one. Good luck to those using substitutes, and I await long term results of those!

Hard water eliminator!
I have a Miele dishwasher and it occasionally leaves hard water stains (it's the water, not the dishwasher). I read in the manual that the dishwasher had a container for salt to soften the water, so I bought some from Amazon and OMG, the dishes are spotless! The old hard water stains are gone as well. It's specially formulated salt (or so they say) so get it from Amazon. This really works!

Salt is absolutely necessary.
Don't ever let anyone tell you that you don't need salt I your dishwasher if you have a soft water tank in your house. I was having so much trouble with mine quitting after the prewash cycle. I was ready to sending out the door and buy a new one. Then as a last Ditch attempt I ordered the salt. It took a few runs to clean out the drain but I have saved myself money in not needing a new dishwasher. Salt is absolutely necessary to keep the drain clean. And as a precaution and warning: do not use plastic pods. I believe they don't disintegrate and may plug up the drain. I cut my pods and empty the powder into the soap container, and trash the plastic.
