Great work on the real foundations of zen practice
This author came highly recommended which led me to purchase the e-book. I have found every aspect of the book enlightening and educational. The commentary has allowed me to deepen my zen practice by not only just 'going through the motions', but really understanding the aims of the various elements of zen, zazen and alike.I would recommend this e-book to everyone from those wanting to explore the zen culture through to those practitioners who are wanting to deepen their own practice and understanding.

Actually religious, suprisingly nutritious
Book came in decent condition, even though it was definitely NOT the latest edition (mine was used, so more or less understandable) This book is NOT for those who are just beginning to delve into Buddhism. This book is a bunch of prayers and mantras, and parables, basically a bible of sorts. This is NOT a book for new age hippies looking for a more authentic lifestyle. This is definitely an accurate representation of actual Buddhism, not "I do yoga on Tuesday mornings, go to Starbucks and then shop at whole foods" Buddhism. That said, this is really a wonderful little book of Buddhism, but definitely for an advanced practitioner. Great if you're curious about actual, authentic Buddhism, but I recommend having a general understanding of Buddhism before you read this. If you're looking for that fortune cookie Buddhism that seems to be all the rage with the millennials, look elsewhere.

A Place to Start
I actually had studied Zen off and on for many years, and read many texts. But, I wanted to read a book that I felt would give me some direction, a manual. So obviously the title caught my attention. D. T. Suzuki was very well known, honored and respected scholar and practitioner of the Zen way. But a quotation on the back of the book by Carl Jung cinched my decision to purchase, "Suzuki's works on Zen Buddhism are among the best contributions to the knowledge of living Buddhism...We cannot be sufficiently grateful to the author, first for the fact of his having brought Zen closed to the Western understanding, and secondly for the manner in which he has achieved his task."This book is a must have for the library.

good translation of key zen Buddhist texts
DT Suzuki presents a masterful translation of the most important texts for the serious students of Zen Buddhism… I highly recommend.

Great book, edited poorly
The condition of the book was excellent and it arrived quickly. Very happy with the seller, but the editing of the book is very sloppy. It can be confusing to read as foot notes pop up haphazardly and there are several typos. Most notably using 'arc' instead of 'are' among others.

If the book is worth $13, the Kindle version is certainly worth $3.
Found the print copy of this in a bookstore and thought it was an interesting reference. Starts from the very beginning and covers quite a lot. If you are interested in the rituals and readings of Zen Buddhism, this the book to have. Well worth the small cost.

I think you will enjoy it, especially if you are a Buddhist or ...
Although this book was written in 1960 it gives you a feel for Buddhism and some of its gathas and prayers plus one of its most beloved teachings of the Ten Ox story which my dear teacher and friend Father Robert Kennedy writes in the introduction to his book Zen Gifts to Christians: "this poetic picture story, a boy herdsman, stands for none other than you the reader." Suzuki's rendering shares the story with pictures and short pithy statements before and below each picture. I think you will enjoy it, especially if you are a Buddhist or interested in its teachings and musings.

Clear over view of the essentials.
You will find the essence of zen practice in these pages along with the sutras and words passed on from masters to students. As with all of the great teachings written and spoken, the song rests in between the lines.

A treasure.
I found this little book to be a treasure of scriptural material related to zen buddhism.

A classic.
After reading "An Introduction to Zen Buddhism" I purchased this book. It is different form the latter, more aimed to people who want to know not only hints about Zen (if explanable i any way), more focused on rites and sutras, along with monk life. For this reason it it a bit more difficult, but well worth reading anyway, especially if you want to give deeper look on the subject.
