Brilliant - it works!!
Tried so many styrofoam cutter & they have all been useless. No quick heat, flimsy cutting wire. no on/off trigger. This one has it ALL. Changeable heating rods, trigger operation & fast heat. It's the absolute benchmark & probably good enough for work use. For home it's a winner!! Bonus - comes in a nice case with a stand plus its can hang. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. One that works!!

Good for the price.
It takes a bit to get the hang of cutting styrofoam. I recommend practicing on scrap pieces before working on your new masterpiece. I love the tool and it is definitely fun to cut with. The blades are not solid, meaning there is empty space between top and bottom. This causes the cut to be skewed rather than exactly straight. My long blade is bent. For my projects, this has been okay so far. But if I wanted a clean, straight line, my blade would not be good for it since the bottom is bent. I've used it to cut candles and it work slick as long as temp was hot. I'd like additional attachments, like looped and curved blades to better round some ends. You can use the side of the blade to add texture to your project. I recommend it for larger cutting projects. Harder to control for any detail work.

Worked well on styrofoam box
We have been getting frozen foods that come in a styro chest inside of a cardboard box. Cutting the styro up was a challenge with either a knife or saw, making a mess of small particles. This hot knife cutter eliminates that problem and makes clean cuts. I bought this particular unit due to the availability of replacement knives. Cutting the styro is easy enough, the only tricky part is that the knife blade wants to twist as it cuts along the separated halves. It seems better closer to the screw clamps. I might try a shorter blade in the future. It does the job that I wanted it for, so I am satisfied.

Three star rating strictly on the value
I really can’t knock the product from use to durability and the accessories that come with it including a hard case. Sure this will last me a long time. I mainly bought this to cut the foam for my rifle cases because according to my wife I’m picky and OCD about that stuff. The thing heats up fast and slices through foam fairly fast. I was cutting Kaizen foam out of my Vault cases. Horrible smell when cutting foam make sure your in a ventilated area. The cuts were straight and pretty precise much better than using an electric knife. So product is great for what I used it for, BUT here is the problem that’s all I’m gonna use it for. This is like a speciality tool to me the kind you would run and get at Harbor Freight use it a few times and leave it in the tool box forever. Is it a 100 buck tool? To me not really 60 buck tool more like it but they know they got you on the hook because there aren’t a lot of options to fit it’s application.

Blades Warp
It does cut fairly painlessly, feels smooth, but the blade warps IMMEDIATELY. Material gets caught in-between the bottom and top pieces of the blade, where at several points, made gaps as big as an inch. Hopeful my pictures capture that. These were pieces spray-foamed together and should be perfectly flush with one or another. I'm not entirely sure if I should have gone with a cheaper product, considering that I might get the same result. Their instructions are bare minimum and I followed them to a "T". Definately "made in China" instructions--poorly edited, missed spelling, and a lack of clarity. Temperature dial has zero markers, so that's hard to get right. My pet peeve is instructions that say things like "place blade into proper grooves," without some sort of part diagram that shows placement and "proper grooves". I'm not an expert, but technical instructions are supposed to be made to instruct the biggest dummy who can read or see. What "proper grooves"? What are these loose pieces of metal where the blade sits inside? Maybe I'm doing it right, maybe it's all intuitive, but I am the person who wants to KNOW I am doing it right, and proper technical instructions should be able to tell you that. That's literally instruction writing 101--instruct as if no one knows anything about anything so they can follow piece by piece. But mostly, despite that rant, the immediate warped blade ticked me off above all else.

Foam cutter makes very Neat, clean cuts and gets very Hot very quickly!
Very simple and intuitive to use, just install the blade and you are good to go. This tool cuts through 2 inch thick rigid foam VERY quickly, most likely because it does get very hot immediately. Make sure you have a place to set it down between cuts because this thing is ready in seconds, since it does get so hot I would recommend that you use leather gloves because the potential to burn your digits is quite obvious once you pull the trigger on this device. I use gloves because I am old and fumbly. The reason I bought this device is because I need it to cut insulation panels to fit precisely on my RV motorhome, I am in southern British Columbia a couple of miles from the 49th parallel. I don't care what anybody says, when you live North of the 49th, you are gonna need some skirting and insulation up here in the Great White North and THIS IS the tool to get the job done. It allows you to quickly make nice clean cuts through rigid insulation panels quickly and, it does not look like a 2 year old did it when you are done. I personally have not had a problem with residue being left on the blade, although the tool comes with 2 blades and cleaning brush and instructions on how to use this specialty tool. It has already met and exceeded my expectations and it appears to me this item will last for many years to come.
