Bardot's Masterpiece
Finally Bardot's favourite movie and her best ... got the blu ray's treatment. One of Clouzot's last great movie ... In this one BB plays a young woman who is leading a free, amoral life and rebels against her bourgeois family existence, she is accused of killing her lover who was previously engaged to her sister. In the first part we have a typical Bardot: Sexy and carefree in the second part we have the tragedienne and Bardot proved to her detractors that she could indeed act , Clouzot put her under pression pushed and pushed her like she never has been before ...In the Court part she is delivering her best acting , and her performance is impressive and realistic ...The film won won the grand prix du cinema Français, Clouzot won the best director's award at the 1962 Mar del Plata festival in Argentina, BB won the best foreign actress David di Donatello award in Italy and the film was nominated for an oscar in Hollywood and won a golden globe award in 1961...It is a true crime of Passion !

Structually unsound....
[Spoilers below!] Clouzot relies heavily on flashbacks in La Verite - so much so that I found they prevented me making a connection with the film. The hubbub surrounding the planning, the filming, as well as the various capers of those involved in the project led to huge publicity and contributed to the film being a great hit in France. Various incidents such as lead actors being fired, nervous breakdowns, Bardot's secretary selling information to the newspapers, Clouzot's heart attack, &c &c. The gravamen of the film is 'was the killijng of her boyfriend a cold-blooded murder or was it un crime passionnel?' The latter verdict would most likely result in a less severe punishment or even an acquittal, depending on how sympathetic the jury felt. Bardot is super, and the photography by Armand Thiraud is good - all the better for being in 1080p from a 4k restoration, but despite being Oscar nominated, for me this film was an also ran. The extras comprise a 4 minute interview with Clouzot, a 20 minute interview with Bardot, and a 60 minute documentary on Clouzot called 'La Scandale Clouzot'.

Truly a good film. C'est vrai!
A good story, beautiful scenery and Bardot giving her best. She always looks good wherever she is and whatever she is doing and this production is no exception. In La Verita Bardoy demonstrates her natural talent for acting and also that she has developed the skills to bring a good story alive. This is a good buy for all Bardot fans.

No English subtitles
This dvd plays in French or Italian. It has Italian subtitles, though not in Enlish. Though this film is was considered by some Frecn critics one of BB's best performances, I do not garee because she has had better performances than this film.As BB stands for trial in a court room, and the story that brought her here unfolds reveals enough scenes to entertain Bardot's fans.

DVD details ++ good quality release!
Believed by most critics to be the best acting effort of BB's career (from that period I also liked "En cas de malheur", 1958) this Henri-Georges Clouzot picture from 1960 also stars Sami Frey. Acc. to Bardot's autobio, both stars fell in love with each other on the set. Brigitte remembers him as her "true love".Film: 7/10Picture quality: 9/10Aspect ratio: 1,37:1 (orig. ?)Run time PAL 50Hz: 2:02'15"Audio: F; Ital.ST: Ital. o/-black and whiteChpt.: 8RC 2Extras:- text introduction by Andrea VioliStudio: A & R PRODUCTIONS AND DISTRIBUTION SNC
