Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone

Wonderful music!I did a digital copy for myself and gave it to my Dad to play in the car - he loves it too!

I found this CD after listening to Ennio Morricane on radio 2 and was looking for the piece that had been played and saw this, as I do like listening to cello music decided to buy this CD too and I sit and listen to them both whilst making cards they are so relaxing just beautiful music.

There are scarcely enough stars in the sky to adequately describe this extraodinarily beautiful recording. Yo Yo and Ennio have clearly thought hard about ways to interpret the magical music and have come up with a winning formula.Beautifully sensitive playing by Yo Yo with some wonderful overlapping counter melodies going on. Anyone who loves the cello will fall in love with this, as I have done. It never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Don't think I have a more beautiful CD in my collection.Ennio is the greatest- even than Mozart.

When I first came across this CD I knew only the spaghetti western music, which I have always enjoyed. However, on repeated playings, it was the lesser known pieces e.g. Malena and Casualties of War that moved me most. How can anyone fail to be deeply moved by Ma's playing of the Death Theme (from the Untouchables). All in all this is a magnificent recording, and if you like the cello and film soundtracks there is only one choice for you, and this is it!

Morricone's music evokes the the films for which the pieces were written - passionate and strong themes. But Yo Yo Ma's interpretation makes the passion soothing and the cello is perfectly suited to the themes. I don't normally like re-workings of film music because I believe that the original music is inextricably linked to the visual images of the film in my memory. However, I often listen to this CD after I return home from work, when I want to calm down and leave my preoccupations at the doorstep. It is relaxing and uplifting at the same time. Thank you Yo-Yo and Ennio for this brilliant idea to join your talents.

I've loved this album for years, ever since I was fortunate enough to hear it on Pandora way back when. I've since purchased the MP3 album, the CD, and most recently, this vinyl.The first thing that jumps out at you is the over-the-top quality of every element involved.I've purchased tons of different record sleeves to try to protect my collections as thoroughly as possible, and I've yet to be thrilled with any of them. But the sleeve (envelope) this album came in is a thick, crystal-clear pouch with a flap at the top which seems it will protect this album far better than any of my others will be. I would love to know where I can purchase more of these, but I've not seen any similar on amazon.The vinyl itself is flawless. A clean, shiny surface 100% free of imperfections, and this is reflected in the quality of sound produced when it starts turning on the platter.The actual content of the album is brilliant. Yo-Yo Ma is an amazing artist, and when he plays the work of the equally-brilliant Morricone, it's nothing short of magical. You are first greeted by the beautiful "Gabriel's Oboe", and I've never heard it sound better than it sounds on this record. The subsequent tracks follow suit, never failing to impress.If you're a fan of the cello and/or classical music in general, or of Ennio Morricone, you absolutely must hear this record. Once you hear it, you'll buy it.

Che suoni anche bene!Questa edizione dell'incontro storico tra due musicisti geniali non poteva tradire le aspettative: le musiche senza tempo, riarrangiate dal maestro Morricone per un violoncellista straordinario quale Yo-Yo Ma, vengono qui restituite in maniera impeccabile.Dinamica, ricostruzione scenica ed equilibrio sonoro veramente audiophile.Da avere!
