Awesome for a kid
My 5 year old has so much fun with this. Wish the magnifying glass was a little better quality, but that's my only complaint. The books that come with it are very informative, but still interesting, and the pan works great, even on "real" paydirt. We were able to use it to find fine gold flakes. The pyrite pieces are small enough to seem real to a child, but big enough they can pick them up with the tweezers and feel like they are mining. We used an 8 inch deep plastic tub to mine in, poured the extra water off and let it dry out so we could reuse it.

Fun!
My kids loved this. We are doing a unit study on the California Gold Rush so I thought this would be a fun activity. You get 2 bags of dirt with “gold” and it was plenty! I was concerned there wouldn’t be enough to go around but we still have one more bag of dirt to pan. It also came with a booklet of activities and information about gold. So this is definitely a fun and educational activity.

Cute product that needs some larger gold !
This item was a fun little gold panning set that was what we needed for school. However, I have it four stars because it was hard to get the gold pieces out even with following the directions exactly. The pieces are very small and we ended up throwing many away as it was just too much work. I did attempt to strain some of the bigger ones after the kiddos were bored of traditional panning.

Great Kit for 5 Year old Boy!
My 5 year old son was super excited to receive this. I thought he might think the gold pieces were too small when I first saw them...but he never said anything. He used the tweezers and put them into the vile. There is a nice little black velvet carrying pouch. There was also a large gold nugget included, which was a very nice surprise for him!

Bag was open and sand was everywhere.
Fun idea, but one of the bags of sand was opened in the box and was all over the other items in the shipping box as well. Fun kit for a child. Mine lost interest after an hour of playing, but they've had different gem kits and are use to finding more than one type of "treasure".

Grand kid loves it!
One of our grandson(6 yo) wanted gold for his birthday so we got him this instead. Well, now he thinks he is a great treasure hunter!

The kids liked it but the quality could have been better
The kids liked it but the quality could have been better. My son still has his bottle of "gold dust" but only played with it one time.
