The tub doesn't seem airtight.
I was buying the 1kg pot to use in my koi pond for water changes and to control the spring ammonia/nitrite spikes until the filters settled down. I last bought it in april and it was £36 but when i went to reorder it has gone up to over £51 so decided to look at other alternatives. I came across this 4kg tub which at first i thought was really expensive but then once i divided the price by 4 it actually works out at around the £36 per kilo that i was paying before so decided to order it as it will last for absolutely ages. The tub arrived in an Amazon box with a sheet of brown paper for protection 🙆 🤦 and there was a strong smell of the powder so i initially thought it was damaged but on checking the tub it appears to be intact. After a few hours theres still a really strong smell of the powder in the room (if you have used safe then you will know the smell) leaving me to think that the lid is possibly not airtight. This could be a major issue as the powder itself will last for years as long as it's kept in an airtight container and no moisture gets to it. The product itself gets five stars, the three stars are for 1, Amazons packaging and 2, the issue with the lid and being able to smell the product. I'm going to try and make sure that it will be ok and will update this review with any further information i get be it from Seachem or Amazon.Update.... I spoke to the UK's sole distributor of Seachem products who were very helpful, they looked into my query then called me back and they confirmed that I should not really be able to smell the contents with the lid on however the tubs that they had in their warehouse did have a feint smell to them as well. They did confirm that if the powder still looked ok and had not gone solid then it should be absolutely fine but if I wanted to be extra sure to take it out of the tub and store it in an airtight container or if I wasn't happy to do that return it to Amazon. I have now put the tub inside a vacuum storage bag and will keep it in there. Because they were so helpful I have decided to give four stars instead of the three I gave initially.

A pond owner's perspective
For our 7300 gallon koi pond (5500 gallons pond, 1800 gallons filter), I was using Pond Amquel Plus and KORDON Pond Novaqua Plus for 400 gallon water changes. I would buy gallon jugs, re-pour them into manageable 16 ounce containers and just pour a few ounces of each while refilling the pond. At those levels, it was more for prophylactic use than any real concern about chemical levels. The pond is stable. We have some near 1 meter koi for over 10 years and hope to keep them for decades longer. After exhausting my latest supply, I decided to look for a lower cost product while still maintaining water quality. Many people recommend Seachem Prime and I looked into it. It turns out Seachem Safe is the powdered version and is safe for all fishes, even those intended for human consumption.I am pleased with Seachem Safe. Not only is it more economical, it is easier to use. I use one teaspoon per 400 gallon water change. The koi look and behave the same and the pond has maintained its balance.I also recently set up a small 12 gallon nano tank with a pair of clownfish I am hoping eventually spawn. I put in a tiny amount of Safe just to ensure the chemical levels are well controlled. The fish appear unaffected. Seachem Safe appears to be an inexpensive, easy to use water conditioner well suited for all types of fish. Pond Amquel PlusKORDON Pond Novaqua Plus

Poor delivery driver!
The product itself is great for my ponds. This package was open in the box. The smell from this stuff cannot be healthy to breathe in someone's personal vehicle. The route for this package was at least 40 minutes for this poor driver. The product needs to be packaged better! Apologies to the driver!!!

It works, but wish it had small tank instructions
I have 36 tanks (and growing). Some grow-out, some breeder, some pre-breeder holding tanks, and two large show tanks. Many of my tanks are smaller, because the species breeding in them don't need huge tanks.I like this stuff because it can go REALLY, REALLY far. I don't have to buy a refill for AGES.But it is so concentrated, it only suggest a 13-gallon tank in the smallest dose. What I want to know is the dosage that is still safe for a 10-gallon (most basic) tank. So maybe something like "1/8th teaspoon for UP TO 13 gallons" would be easier to deal with. I've been using literal pinches of it for my smaller tanks, or mixing it with water and splitting the mixture between smaller tanks. But a word from the company on what is still okay to use would be nice.

gets rid of nitrite, nitrate, & chloramines
Was buying the bottled liquid version & paying the price. i couldn’t constantly buy RODI water it was getting expensive to top off . with the liquid Prime i could add the necessary amount to tap water & replenish the evaporated water loss in my reef tank but it was getting expensive. prime would allow for tap water usage & since it got rid of nitrate, nitrite as well i had no negative results . So i found the concentrated powder form & it does an awesome job. i probably will have the container for life since it last so long but no more buying RODI water .( until i get to instal RODI STSTEM - it’s just no feasible at the moment. this product is awesome - 5 gal water 1/2 of the scoop of powdered prime & no problems in topping off water for evaporation . my parameters in the tank totally stable . it’s the inly product out there that actually removed nitrate nitrite thats in high concentrations in my city tap water . ive tested the water before adding prime & the numbers are through the roof . i’ve added the prime & tested the same water afterwords & totally normal . great product . i have a co worker that was setting up a brand new 40 gal cube - i recommended using prime & especially during initial cycle set up & it made his transition effortless with no spikes in nitrate, nitrite issues. he was super pleased .
