Each episode is totally absorbing. Keeps you on your toes.

As well as the beautiful backdrops of the North East coast and country this show brings you reality based , therefore utterly believable scripts, great acting and some very clever camera work that just makes it so very easy to sit down and watch either as a binge session, or individual episodes depending on your time constraints.You find yourself feeling as if you are in the North East yourself (I live near Munich, so that's quite a jump!) with the way the characters act, they are not trying too hard to make the North out to be dark or depressing, but just their home, whatever that may mean or bring to them! I have sen plenty of shows, based all over Britain, where they over exaggerate social circumstance, differences between areas and cultures etc. None of that here, just how it is, and if you don't like it then lump it! I have probably just described the main protagonists - Brenda Blethyn as Vera - views on how people view here or her opinions .This is a great show because it is well written, produced and directed with care, beautifully filmed and acted by what ca only be described as a sublime cast of actors.I cannot recommend this show highly enough.

What can you say about vera she's brilliant great character excellent story snd she's human

Vera Stanhope continues to solve crime the old fashioned way by applying common sense and deduction. She continues to teach her young colleagues that you cannot always rely on the computer to solve things. Technology helps immensely but you still need the human intervention. The series do seem to have drifted from the original believe that her father was a rogue, this series leads you to believe he was an outstanding police office who poached on private land. Everything is open to interpretation, If you are a Vera fan this is for you.

I am not sure why I keep getting more seasons. They seem to be the same. Character threads opened in previous seasons seem to always to get dropped when the new season starts. I wish they'd tell you what the characters who aren't on the show unexpectedly when it begins are doing or something. Seems a bit heartless after you invested time getting to know them.

I am a great lover of all the UK based crime series (except Midsomer Murders) and have all the DVDs for Morse, Lewis, Endeavour, A Touch of Frost, Inspector George Gently. Unforgotten, DCI Banks etc. but for me Vera is absolutely, unequivocally the best of them all. Just plain crime drama, fast moving, brilliantly written and superbly acted without unnecessary sub-plots (such as spoiled later episodes of Endeavour for example). Brenda Blethyn is without equal in my view. The photography, the settings, everything just makes these series second to none.

Love to watch how Vera acts and works, and at some point you get to feel something for her on a personal level. Good mysteries and an interesting staff to watch helping her solve them.

Brenda Blethyn is brilliant as Vera Stanhope DCI. I have enjoyed all the series and keep fingers crossed for more to come. If you liked Shetland and Foyle, well scripted , plot driven and superbly acted then Vera is for you.

The U.K. series, Vera, is one of the best written and produced programs that I was fortunate enough to discover several years ago. Hopefully there will be more series coming.
