Could I float the wayerproof version for a swim to shore?

Yes, I swam with it on my back. Due to the trapped air inside, it tends to float (unless you have heavy items in it).

Breathability ? Back sweat?weight?

I bought it as a day pack, so very light weight. I needed something waterproof, and it has proved to be so, so probably not very breathable. I've only had it during the winter, and warn it with a jacket, so no sweating so far. Holds a surprising amount for it's overall size, and with a couple of drink holders and two zipper outside pockets, it is easy to organize. I also use the attached bag (which can hold the pack folded up) as another pocket. I'm very happy with mine.
