Much sturdier than I expected. Good quality Stand
I was skeptical because some reviews stated this stand was not as tall as advertised. At first, I was about to agree but then I discovered, both the top and bottom half of the pole moves up. I was only extending the top portion and didn't fully extend the bottom portion. If your stand comes up short, watch to be sure the triangle inner poles move because if they haven't, you can still pull up even further. I measured from the floor to the top of the stand when extended to the height I felt comfortable, it was 42". The stand comes in two pieces. The base which is folded up just like a camera tripod, and the attachable flat laptop tray that slips on the top of the pole and you tighten as you would a photography light stand. The laptop tray is adjustable as far as the tilt. You can make it parallel to the floor like a desk or have it slanted like a music stand or anywhere in between. I'm not sure if there are different versions of this stand, but the one I have is VERY sturdy and the material is solid. Not too heavy and but heavy enough the wind wouldn't blow this over. If someone accidentally bumped it, it feels weighted and kind easily repositions itself from an accidental wobble. The tray has font and rear ledges that will keep your laptop from sliding off or being pushed back too far. It does not have ledges on the left and right sides so larger laptops could fit if they extended longer. I placed my 15: MacBook Pro on it and there was about a 1/2 inch left on each side of the tray. A 17" inch could fit with a slight hang over the edge but it would be secure enough with the front and rear ledges that you wouldn't feel nervous about leaving it sitting up there. I"m actually pleasantly surprised at the quality. It's actually more sturdier than a few of my photography light stands. This came with a one page 6-step instruction sheet. No words on the sheet, just numbers steps to follow. Just look at the direction of the arrows and it's very easy to follow. Step one - open clamps, step 2, twist and lift top and bottom portion of pole, step 3, fasten clips back, step 4, insert the silver rod in the little hole to keep the pole from slipping down during use, step 5, slide on stand and tighten to desired slant, step 6 - put your laptop on it. It even comes with an adhesive grip pad that you can stick onto the laptop tray for traction. I didn't put mine on because the front and rear ledges were enough. This stand can also double as a portable podium.

Perfect laptop stand *once you tighten all the screws*. This is *required*
The reviews of this laptop stand are *all over the place*. I just got mine and thought I'd set some things straight: - The image in the listing that shows it as being 47" tall at maximum extension, when the tray is flat, is correct. Note that this is an inch shy of 4 feet. The text description of the product as being 4.5 feet fall is incorrect. (Well, if you tilt the tray so it's perfectly vertical then it does turn out to be 4.5 feet tall, but also obviously useless.) - To reviewers saying that the middle clamp is loose and entire top slides down, yes mine came that way too. Fortunately this is an extremely common clamp type with an easily accessible screw that adjusts tightness. This is how this type of clamp always works, it's by design. (Clamps of this type are usually shipped slightly too loose, so that nobody damages them by trying to use them too tight.) So just tighten the screw a couple of turns when the clamp is open, and problem 100% fixed. The bar you can put through is just an extra safety mechanism. - To reviewers saying that the sticky mat on top stinks... oh boy it does. It smells like tar pits. It's also so ridiculously sticky I thought my laptop almost got glued permanently to the stand. Seriously, it seems closer to permanent adhesive than a grip mat. Do yourself a favor and toss it. Laptops usually have rubber feet anyways. Or if you require a laptop stand with a grippy tray, don't buy this one, or buy a roll of grippy rubber and adhere it yourself. - Finally, as to stability/wobbliness: YOU CAN FIX IT! My original review stated that yes indeed the top column and tray are wobbly so you can't use this for extensive typing. But then I tightened the clamp *even more* and then tightened the screws that hold the tray to the mount... and now it's rock-solid! So what's the conclusion? For the price, it's an awesome option if you need a stand for your laptop to use mainly for *viewing*. I bought it for videoconferencing at eye level while seated (so my webcam wouldn't always be angled up my chin), and it works great for that. (Other laptop/projector stands weren't tall enough.) I imagine it would work well for a DJ or something too that just occasionally selects tracks, taps keys, etc. And in both cases, even better if you've got a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse at a lower level on a nearby table. But if you expect to type extensively on it, use it as a standing desk, that sort of thing -- I mean, you *could*. But it's terrible ergonomics anyways for a standing desk, because while it comes up to a fine height for your hands (I'm 6'1" and full extension is slightly too high), you'll be craning your neck downwards constantly to the screen which would be terrible. Hope that helps others trying to decide.

High quality solid stand- better than expected. Definitely recommend!
This is a solid product - well built and good quality. The tripod legs can be adjusted to narrow or wide base, the adjustable rod has a pin for additional security, and the top shelf has one side with a half-inch lip and the other side with something more like a quarter inch (if you want to take off the four nuts and swap the top direction that might be better for angled use with a thin ultrabook). This would make a good music or conductor's stand also - would easily stand up to heavy weight and use. It is portable but heavier than I anticipated. The silicone pad is the super-sticky type (works well though) and has a horrid chemical smell that I hope will abate with use. Only real complaint is it came with the washers and hardware loose in the box and no assembly order given. True, it was not a big deal to figure out what works, but there were 5 washers and I would have liked to know what they recommended to do with them - I put one plastic one on each face of the rotating arc and the metal thicker one and other plastic ones on the side with the knob. Probably doesn't matter that much, but still annoying - and they could have at least put the hardware in a baggie or something so it wasn't just bouncing around the box - stuff could easily get lost that way. This is a solid better quality item than I expected it to be at the price - I look forward to using it for a good long time and would definitely recommend it unless you need something super light weight or small for travel - in which case check the weight and dimensions. UPDATE - have had this about a week, and the chemical smell of the silicone pad persists. It's not too bad when something is on top of it (like the laptop) but if you are near it and it is not covered it is still sickening. This is probably true of all silicone pads -this is the first one I have used - but definitely a factor in how I choose to use it!

Would be 5 stars, but height is overstated.
I got this on 2/29/2024. In summary, if you can live with a 47 in height and a replacement for the gel pad, you will be very happy with this stand. I read many reviews, 1 and 5 stars. The most common complaint among the 1 start reviews was that is was wobbly and would not stay at height because the clamps did not grip the telescoping tube properly (There is only 1 height adjustment). One of the 5 star reviews pointed out that the camps can be adjusted for tightness with a screw in the clamp. It is very sturdy and with the clamps properly adjusted, can hold at least 20 lbs (I stacked weight machine weights on it). Many customers noted that it was not 4.5 feet (54 in) tall. This is true, even if you measure to the top of the stand when it is vertical. Not sure how they got that number. The actual height with the stand horizontal and the telescoping pole fully extended, and the base set all the way to its stop, is 47 plus inches. In this position, the top of the stand can sway about +/- 3/16 inches. The other complaint was that the gel pad was to sticky. This may be true, I didn't use it. I had several feet of non-slip tool box liner which I cut to size. It works perfectly and is not sticky at all. FYI, the top is 15 5/8 inches W and 10 7/8 inches H with lips on top and bottom, but not the sides. It can be adjusted from horizontal to vertical. The bottom lip is just over 11/16 inch and the top lip is just over 5/16 inch.

I have no regrets purchasing this. It is well made.
Overall impression: I have no regrets about purchasing this. I use it as a makeshift standing desk for my laptop or a presentation podium at meetups. It doesn't look cheaply made, It doesn't tip over, the locking mechanisms are reliable. I am happy when I get a product that is well designed. As a tall person, I used to worry that it might not extend high enough. However, the height goes way higher than is ergonomically comfortable for typing and is sufficiently high to keep me from straining my neck. So it makes sense ergonomically as well. A few cons aside, this stand meets my needs, and that's all I really ask for in a product. 5 stars Pros: - Well built - Well designed - The entire stand is intuitive to set up - The locking mechanisms are easy to use - The locking mechanism leaves no doubts about whether or not it will accidentally slip because it has this pin to keep it level/stable. - comes with this grippy matt I can put on the stand to keep the laptop from sliding. Cons: - A bit too big to fit in a backpack. - You have to carry the base and the flat stand that goes atop of it separately. Those do not fit in the backpack by themselves either. So when you carry this around you have to carry the pieces individually. - If you want to use this as a portable desk or stand while seated, then it may be about 2-3 inches too tall to feel comfortable.

Great laptop standing desk!
It's the best thing that happened to me. I made the perfect choice. Exactly what I needed, I can stand and work from that position. I like how I can adjust it to the height I'm comfortable with. It's sturdy, and the material is solid. I also love that it's foldable. Also, it was very easy to set up. I can take it with me when I'm doing presentations. I would highly recommend this product to my friends and family. thank you

Well built and sturdy stand for studio musicians or modern day producers
This was a pleasant surprise. I actually ordered it to hold a midi control surface of mine (the Nektar Panorama P1) in my home studio. Having purchase a few of these laptop stands in the past, I was expecting the build quality to appear a bit wobbly or flimsy like I had experienced previously. This was not the case. I should have known since it was made by Samson that it would be a quality build. The metal legs are not much different than you'd find on a set of speaker stands so there is very little give or wobble at all. It sits nicely to the left of my L shaped computer desk and does what its supposed to do perfectly. I did test it out as a laptop stand using a 17" HP Envy laptop since it is a bit heavier and larger than average and it was more than adequate. It came with a sticky rubber pad to put on the metal plate so that it grips whatever you set on it which is nice. It has adjustable height options too so you can use it sitting at a desk or standing. I'd highly recommend this product for those wanting to make space in a home studio or obviously anyone just needing a sturdy, well built laptop stand. Well done Samson

Sturdy and affordable
The few negative reviews seem to have no merit given the outstanding quality of this laptop stand for my M2 Macbook Air.. Absolutely no issues putting it together. All clamps fit snugly and tightly. The black silicone adhesive mat does give off a strong odor, but you can choose not to use it. (As I did). Very pleased with my purchase!

Hervorragende Qualität, On Location für Tethered-Shooting
