New York's Underground Art Museum: MTA Arts and Design

This is a beautiful book. I am creating my own subway tours using it. I cannot wait to see these beautiful pieces, up close, that will make the NYC subways a treat to behold. How far we have come from the complete chaos that it used to be.It is a challenge to design a tour. The items are indexed by date of creation which is not particularly useful to me. We decided to start with the 6th line as there are art installations at almost every stop. I haven't read all the book, but as yet I do not find detailed directions on where to find the various art objects in the station. Sometimes they are on the train landing, but at other times, it requires wondering around a cavernous station.So I recommend the book because it is beautiful and the art installations are wondrous to behold and this effort should be encouraged and supported. I just wish navigation had been added. But maybe that'll be my book.

This hard cover coffee table book is fabulous. Everything I'd hoped it would be and more. I really wanted a book that was representative of the New York Underground artwork and that's what I got. Beautifully laid out, superb artwork representation and additional surprises such us Metro Maps etc... This would be a great gift and for your own coffee table and for me is a great reminder of my time in New York.

Ms Bloodworth and Mr. Ayres have put together a compendium of remarkable art and design that may be seen as you travel to and from many of the 468 stations of New York's famous mass transit system. Reading this book is like getting a seat at rush hour - a delight!

This book documents a monumental achievement - turning commuting intoan aesthetic experience, and adding yet another facet to the jewel that is New York City.

For NYTA Subway riders, this is an entertaining and informative book
