    Great Small Office landline option

*by A***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on May 22, 2020*

I admit, I was hesitant to purchase this and the companion wireless handsets based on the mixed reviews. First, let me say, this is not a higher tier VOIP phone (e.g. Cisco, Polycom, etc). That said, this is a great alternative if you do not need that type of system.I decided to try these in a small field office, with a total staff of 8. I'm not going to get into why we need dedicated phones, but we do. I told my boss I would take care of it and save our organization about 2K a year doing it my way. He said do it.Our FO has awesome gigabit internet speed, so I got us four magicjacks set up, did some deep dive configuring with both magicjacks and our company's primary VOIP service provider in the cloud admin panel, and I purchased some RCA Unison devices. The phone setup was fast, the audio quality is great both ways, and overall I feel like this is an exceptional value. The audio isn't 100% compared to say a Polycom VOIP handset, but I would say its 90-95% as good. There's a lot of features on these phones that are only found on top-tier offerings by big-name manufactures. They're simple, seem to work well, and as long as they hold up, I anticipate they'll last at least five years. Here's a breakdown of pricing and costs, as it related to the problem I wanted to solve.$93 for the main base phone, $66 per remote phone. A simple system for most small offices would consist of 4-8 phones. We'll assume we need six.$93 + ($66×5) = $423 (one-time cost)$60/yr per magicjack x4 = $240/yrAssuming this will system will last for 5 years, the total infrastructure and service cost is $1,623.00.If we were to have gone with our VOIP provider:Polycom phone lease: $25/MO ($300/yr) per phone, and service for provisioned service per phone at $10/MO ($120/yr). $420/YR × 6 phones = $2,520.00/YR. That's not even getting into the costs relating to minute useage and allotment. So, for five years with our VOIP provider, the total cost for six phones and provisioned service is: $12,600.00, plus the costs for per minute usage during that time period. As long as you have either a landline, or internet with a modest speed and no major data drains - and you add a magicjack (or four), the RCA Unison is a very capable and very reliable option at a great price. If anything adverse occurs with these phones, I will immediately update this review.

Fairly nice set of features. Some annoying issues, though.

*by O***L on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 19, 2019*

All the good things outweigh the bad things.Bad things: Music on hold is awful because no matter what the volume you record, it either comes out terribly distorted or too soft. No indication when music on hold stops recording. No information in instructions. You have to guess, and mime still isn't working right.Message duration has been changed from no limit to choices of 2 or 5 minutes. Instructions are not updated.Tech support barely understands the printed instructions, which are fairly lame. No useful explanations of what the features do, long and complicated wording that isn't useful. Tech support was polite, but an idiot. So, you're on your own to figure it out yourself.Handset displays are very small and hard to read. Blue backlight does not make legibility any better. You have to really study the instructions to answer a call on the handset because the buttons are small and the interface is NOT intuitive. I'm still fumbling around with the handsets. There are two types of desk sets. One is the "master," and the other is a wireless version that plugs into the wall for power. This is a great idea because it gives users the choice of having a full-featured desk set in multiple locations if needed. Desk sets have legible displays. Most functions are intuitive.Set up can be frustrating, especially since it's not intuitive and instructions are poor, and tech support is useless. Tech support is U.S. based.Handsets are affordable at about $50 each.Sound quality and range are excellent. All things considered, it's a keeper. I wish they had thought of things a little more thoroughly, because then it would be a great product instead of an ordinary one. There aren't many choices in 4 line phones that I could see, so I'm settling for this one. My prior Panasonic system was a sorry situation, and this newer system beats it hands down.I guess for the price, you have to expect certain compromises. It certainly is an affordable fairly feature-rich choice, but not excellent or not extra cool.

    Great features for the money!

*by J***S on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 7, 2021*

I ordered this phone system for our small office and it was just what we needed. I am very pleased with the overall quality, especially the "bang for the buck." The phones have lots of useful features.Unfortunately, the one disappointment concerns what is most important about a telephone — the sound quality. The range on the adjustable volume of the handset does not max out at a very high level, or at least not what I am accustomed to. Also, the sound is not as crisp and clear on the wireless extension deskphones as it is on the base station, which is hard-wired to a phone line. All in all, I am pleased with my purchase, as these phones proved to be just what we needed for our situation.
