Betsy Blooomingdale is an iconic figure, a grande dame, whose dinner parties have been atended by Presidents of the United States (Nancy Reagan is her best friend) and major movie stars beginning with Jimmy Stewart and going up and down the line to Joan Crawford, etc. Her guest lists and Friends are a Blue Book in themselves and her book on entertaining is a classic from which EVERYONE can learn the meaaning of elegance and manners. I love this book and so does everyone I have ever head speak of it.

Enjoyable look at the art of entertaining, and full of her friend's recipes. I would have like to have seen more photos of food presentation, but I enjoyed what was presented. Her most popular appetizer ever? Toast rounds with peanut butter and bacon! Hearty comfort foods such as meatloaf, pasta, and potatoes grace the plates as well as the more expected gourmet offerings. High society enjoyed the simple as well as the complicated dishes. Just like an appetizer, the book leaves you wanting more.

A Superb Cookbook.....A Must Have For All Cooks!!!

It is a great book. I was thinking that it would have some of her famous table settings in it, but it didn't. But still a great book.

I was so looking forward to this book- Here's the thing....-the recipe's are fabulous-BUT THERE ARE NO PHOTOGRAPHS-NOT ONE.....None of the food, none of the parties, none of Betsey Bloomingdales estate in Holmby Hills........This could be fabulous if someone had photos of the parties and did a 2nd printing including the table settings (hello! her husband was alfred bloomingdale-great publicity for the store!) and of Betsy, her outfits, her friends, her home. Perhaps now that she has passed someone will add to and re-issue what could be a fantastic coffee table book.

The recipes are a bit too much for anything that people use now, I don't think Betsy prepared these herself. But it is interesting to see what the Reagans and her social group were served at her parties and dinners.

I’ve already made a few recipes which were amazing. My only criticism would be there are no photos of dishes at all. It’s a wonderful collection of recipes from one of America’s famous socialites.
