I've had this blanket for over a year and not had a single issue with it. Unless you keep the blanket on 24/7, at the max heat seating... I don't understand how people are having this issue. However, I would also purchase the protection plan for an extra two bucks, it really helps. It comes with a 5 year warranty itself, though. Definitely a great gift idea. It's really plush and soft.
