3M High Strength Large Hole Repair Plate, 4-pack

The product shown at the top of the review is the Large Hole Plate Repair Kit, not the Large Hole Spackling compound. I am reviewing the Large Hole Repair Reenforced Spackling Compound as shown in the fourth picture. Where has this product been my whole life. My husband and I bought a 90-year-old house with wood clapboard siding. When we painted the outside of the house, we had the scrape the old paint off. We found some larger holes in the siding and a couple of places where the there was a little bit of previous termite damage on the end of a couple of boards. We also found places like you see in the first photo where the end of the board has rotted away. We removed the rotted wood until we found solid wood. We also used it to fill in areas between the boards that were too wide for caulk. This product with the fiberglass is stronger than the wood itself. The photos show before and after shots of one area on the house. As you can see, the product is very paintable. It is a lighter weight than regular putty and spreads like a whipped butter. Even if it looks dry, all you have to do is mix the part you think is dry with the rest of it and it will be fine. You must put the lid back on when you are not using it, just like other putty. Even though the product seems like it is not wet enough, it is just because of the fiberglass. We filled in the areas, sanded, and painted them. The areas blend in perfectly. We have bought multiple containers and will never use another product as long as this product is available. I have also used it inside as well since our house has tongue & groove wood walls on the inside in the bedrooms & kitchen. I have a couple of larger holes that I will have to use the Large Hole Repair Plates. My only complaint is that it does not come in larger containers. I ordered 32 oz containers. There may be a reason for that-I don't know. I would give it more than five stars if I could!!!!! This product has been a miracle for our house renovation, and I always make sure we have at least one tub of it on hand. Best Miracle Product Ever!!!!!!!

I just had my entire house rewired which left 50+ 4" diameter holes in the walls and ceilings. I used these plates to get a backing for plaster. The self adhesive strips on these are pretty weak and the chance of you just pushing the plate into the wall is like 85%. I solved this by putting E6000 glue on the strips, cutting the pull tabs, and then tying them around a paint stirrer to create some outward force to get the glue to hold. Works perfectly!

This product is very easy to use. I was moving and needed to patch some large holes from where I had run cables through the wall. It would have costed me hundreds of dollars to hire someone to patch the holes for me. Along came this product. I was able to patch the holes, each around 3 inches in diameter, seamlessly. It took me about 5 minutes to patch the hole, another five minutes to sand it down, and another 5 minutes to paint it. I will say that the patch is easy to spread and hold its shape. There was no sagging or dropping like I have experienced with other patches. Most of the areas I could not even tell where I patched. I highly recommend this product. The hardest part will of the entire process will probably be trying to match the paint.

I have been using these patch plates since 3M brought them to market years ago. When combined with their large hole high strength spackle the filled hole is ready to sand & paint the following morning. One thing I will mention, to get a good bond on the backside of the drywall I suggest to stick your hand in the hole and try to clean off any loose drywall, paper, dirt prior to installing the plate to give it a good bond. I do a lot of rental repaints and always have these in my tool box.

The 3M wall repair really makes easy to repair the hole on my drywall. Even if you think you are not handy, you will be able to do it.

I had to return a box. Tape along the side of the product came off. Difficult to bend and unbend (insert into wall) without tape sticking to itself. Difficult to handle. Good for a large hole that it would easily fit into. Next time I would use a differnt patch such as the standard ones that go on the front. Those are much easier to work with. Overall, I did not like the product. Do not buy, expensive garbage does not work as described

Did the job of covering up a large hole in our old siring cupboard where a boiler vent used to be. Really easy to use, and now plastered over you wouldn’t know there had been a hole. Very effective.
