It is in the top so to secure, only a pad of paper would slide in. Now I have seen spiral bound pads with a back that would slide down into the slot but unsure where those were from. **Q: Are these made on the USA?** A: Nope these Leather portfolios are handmade by Indian artisans in INDIA. **Q: Will a galaxy A7 tab fit in here?** A: Probably not, I find it difficult to add anything but a legal size paper pad. **Q: I think that I am getting the idea and understand thick and hard but, what is "hardbound"?** A: Imagine the difference between a softcover and hardcover book. Hardbound here means the left and right sides are stiff, rather than floppy.
