It does engage and disengage with a much more positive feel than the standard cleat. In my experience the standard cleat felt mushy and was inconsistent on the release. There was a big difference between left and right cleat on the standard, these cleats are very similar from left to right. Neither cleat disengages unexpectedly even on gnarly terrain.
