Japanese auteur Sion Sono follows up the deliriously entertaining Tokyo Tribe, with Tag, a surreal horror that combines his arthouse aesthetics with equal doses of pro-feminist action fantasy, and the kind of ultra-gory exploitation filmmaking that would make Takashi Miike and Yoshihiro Nishimura proud. Mitsuko (Reina Triendl) is the sole survivor of a bizarre paranormal incident that kills all of her classmates. Running for her life, Mitsuko seemingly slips into an alternate reality, but death and chaos seems to follow her everywhere. As Mitsuko finds herself in increasingly surreal and violent situations, the true horror behind her nightmare is revealed. With a jaw-dropping opening sequence reminiscent of Sono s earlier cult masterpiece, Suicide Club, Tag is a mind-bending slice of action-horror, Alice in Wonderland meets Tokyo Gore Police, and Eureka Entertainment is proud to present the film on Blu-ray and DVD. Variety Alternating between scenes of visual splendor and relentless gore, Sono's latest film is by turns absurd and affecting, bloody and beautiful, carnal and cerebral The Hollywood Reporter The whole film is suffused with dream-like sadness and despair, which Sion Sono captures in wide shots of forests and snowy landscapes that are interspersed with the action. Very creative horror film!
I'm a horror fan and have seen everything from the 1920's German to America's 1930's to the J-Horror of 2000 and the wonderful French wave of horror films over the past few years. I'll watch anyone once and I bought TAG out of sheer desperation to watch something new. TAG blew me away. The opening is extremely well done and creepy, the production value high, the actresses are hot and you'll never guess the storyline. I don't want to say anything to spoil it if you are thinking about it. I would say if you are a fan of J-Horror and American gore (the film is gory in places) you would probably like this film. You have to stay with the film until the very end as there are some twists that might have you scratching your head.

A mind twisting journey thru "parallel" dimensions
This one was weird in a pretty good way. Not sure about the exploitation complaints, as that is kind of the whole point of the movie. There is a bit of gore and some bra & panty shots, but it's not the focus. Overall I would say this is a watch if your looking for something sci-fi that's a in the same vein as Cloud Atlas and other mind bending science fiction movies.

This movie is for people who want to actually think.
This movie isn't for those who are single minded. This movie is for those who are open minded. Some will say cool awesome gore and thats it. Some will say there was no point to this movie. Some will say the plot doesn't exist. It's an exploitation film. To watch this film you need to want to learn something from it. This movie shows the good and bad of every decision that is made and the consequences of each decision. Death is inevitable. You have the chose to destroy fate because fate doesn't exist. You could think about it like all the fanservice for Otakus biting them in the but. This movie will be culture shock. Marriage can be a death sentence for some. But we all have a choice in deciding our fates. We can break the cycle no matter what fate throws at us even if death was the knly thing left. I will say I do have problems with this film like certain cgi themes or costuming wasn't fantastic. Its not really a plot driven story it's more of telling you about society movie. If your looking for a fun time not for you. If you actually want to think watch the movie.

A masterpiece...
Complex, beautiful... Alice in Wonderland meets Tokyo gore. Amazing, provocative coming-of-age film ("a woman is born twice"). Mono's score complements Sono's vision. It's really like a musical, and all of the actresses shine, particularly Reina Treindl and her very expressive (and adorable) face. Not for everyone, but definitely not to be dismissed. A tribute to moviemaking, femalehood, and friendship. Mitsouko finds friends, strength, and endurance to perform the ultimate act. Genius film.

Is it any wonder why Japan has problems with relationships?
The entire theme of this film is that your destiny is fixed. Life is a horror story. Being a kid forever is ideal, but impossible. Being in love with your best friend (who is the same sex as you especially) is impossible, but you wish it wasn't. Marriage (to the opposite sex) is a death sentence, and it's basically the same as non-consensual sex. Violence will happen to everyone, at the worst times, for no reason, and sometimes for reasons that are just an excuse. Old men will take your DNA, turn you into a clone (along with your friends) just so they can have THEIR clone try and sleep with you after basically mentally torturing you for hours on end.I hated this movie. It was slow. It was boring. It was utterly nonsensical. The music was pretentious as it can get. I feel like a Seattle hipster wrote this, and decided to do it in Japan in stead of in the USA because all of zer's hipster friends had already made cooler things with the same plot and basic premise. Skip it. Go watch a Grindhouse movie. Go watch SAW. Go watch paint dry. You will have wasted less time in the process.

What?
This movie is one crazy head trip. When this movie started off with an entire bus and its passengers being violently sliced in half by the wind in the first five minutes, I knew this would be one of the craziest films I've ever watched. And crazy it is! Lots of bloody, violent imagery that comes out of nowhere, nonsensical body changes the protagonist goes through and a rapid fire pace makes this an unexpected and undeniably fun film that I recommend for people looking for some frenetic fun.

A total mind blowing film
WARNING: NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH! This film is very gory, despite the box art. You will probably need to pay attention to try to figure it out, but man, what a trip!
