Empties fast, but drenches.

So I'm an adult man. I intend to use this against other adults. I wanted a water gun with a large reservoir so I wouldn't have to stop and refill often. This has one of the largest water reservoirs I could find and it was a good price, so I decided to give it a try. Personally, I prefer the pump action water guns with triggers, so you can pressurize the water in advance. They seem to be a lot less popular nowadays, though.A few thoughts. This gun is LARGE. It's not particularly large for a man my size, but in the hands of a child the full weight of this product may be too much. The plus size is that it does hold a good amount of water. There are a number of negatives, though. First, since it's not a pressurized reservoir, there is a pressure release hole at the top of the filling cap. This means water can and will leak out of it if not held upright. If you fill it completely, water will actually pour out the top if the gun is not held perfectly level. I really don't care for this, but in this particular gun, it's probably unavoidable. The size/length of the gun also makes it hard to fill in an ordinary sink. A hose wouldn't be a problem, but most kitchen sinks wouldn't accommodate it. This doesn't bother me, personally, but FYI.So the important things I wanted were: Range, capacity, ease of use. There was no listed range on the product page, but I tested it out and would say I can shoot roughly 20 feet, up to 25 feet with a high arc and a strong pull. I ordered two other water guns at the same time as this, both purporting to have a range of 35 feet. The other two guns (one pump action, one pressurized/trigger action) had a real world range of 15-20 feet. So the Super Soaker Hydra had them beat for distance by a small amount.Ease of use is not bad. Pulling back on the pump mechanism isn't hard, and doesn't really affect the ability to aim. Refilling is a little bit of a pain. Again, it's big and a little unwieldy. I expect this from an approximately 2L reservoir (I haven't measured to confirm, but it holds a lot). My only true gripe is about how the cap will spit water at you after filling it, if not held perfectly straight. A taller fill cap could have mitigated this, as could have a better designed cap. But it's not an expensive toy, so this is forgivable.Last is capacity. This one is tricky. It DOES have a large reservoir. The other water guns I bought grossly exaggerated how much they could hold, but one seems to be roughly accurate. The issue is that this water gun literally DRENCHES when it's used. Do you want to absolutely drench someone? Then this is for you. Do you want to run around drenching a LOT of people? Well...in that case, maybe not so much. Because it has a high flow rate, this can empty out a full reservoir in 10 shots. That's a lot of water fun, but not a lot of water fun time before heading back to spend two minutes refilling it. I can actually empty it out in less time that I can refill it. I can't be disappointed, though. Even though I wanted a water gun that could last a while between refills, the absolute blasting power of this product makes it kind of worth it. I wouldn't rely on it by itself for a day of fun, but I it's going to be fun to have on hand when I want to just wash someone clear off the face of the earth.EDIT: Two things I've found from actually using it over the weekend. First, I can use half or even quarter pumps to effectively spray people, and the water will last a lot longer. It still puts out a decent volume of water with fractional pumps. Second, it's fairly easy to disassemble this item, as most of it is held together with screws (the reservoir half is welded). I wound up taking it apart and attaching an external hose on to the internal hose/water inlet. Then I secured the hose to a 10 Liter dromedary bag. It effectively increases the capacity from 1.9L to 10L, while at the same time making the Super Soaker lighter because all the water is in a bag in my backpack instead of sitting in the gun. Works much better/longer now.

Huge stream

I bought this because my neighbors dog likes to bark right next to my window, seemingly every time I put my kids down for a nap. I picked this one as it was rated as most powerful and I wanted to be able to squirt him through my window without going outside. And though it is powerful enough to reach, this thing also puts out a ton of water at once... Long story short, the dog gets drenched with one shot and then cries for half an hour, so I felt terrible and haven't used it since. That being said this thing is probably great for a water gun battle, just don't shoot the neighbors dog with it, it's too much.

Great, but good for a sprint, not a marathon

Overall we are happy with it. It is a decent size, has a large enough tank without being too cumbersome. That said each use is so powerful that it actually needs to be refilled more often than our smaller super soakers.

Mobile garden hose not really fair in waterfights

Great product for what it is and well deserving a five star rating - however: This is a member of the 'too big' category of things.Apart from being physically big and heavy (what is expected), this is more of a mobile garden hose when it comes to water output. As a result, the neighbor kids are drenched within seconds, and nobody wants to play anymore. If you want this to spray lots of water onto something - go for it. If you want it for dominance in water fights: Think twice, there might not be any more fun when this thing shows up.My 7yo downgraded to a smaller supersoaker which is easier to carry and leaves a chance to the other kids.

Price doubled/broke in one day

I bought this for Songkran last year for $37 dollars. It has a nice solid stream, but needs to be refilled frequently. The handle is not secured properly, so if you try to spray too fast you'll break it. I would buy again at $37, but certainly not for $70.

Very fun to use

This super soaker is fantastic. It shoots incredibly far and is quite accurate. The only complaint I have is that it’s so big that the smaller kids have trouble using it. Other than that this is super fun for the kids.

great anti-cat gun.

We had a feral cat hanging around our bird feeders, and it became very difficult to case away after a while.Although we were too far away (over 50 ft) to reach the cat with the first use of the gun, it shot such a healthy stream of water close enough that it was enough to frighten the cat away. When the cat returned a few days later, just the sight of us with the gun caused it to run off. This happened two more times, and the cat has not returned since.

Works great but needs lots of refills

It shoots out a lot of water per shot, and the trigger/pump mechanism is fast. So, you are pouring water down your opponents in huge quantities and at a high rate. This.... also.... means.... lots of trips to get it refilled (where you are vulnerable to attack; yes, we allow getting shot while refilling). We also leave our water guns outside all the time; these Nerf ones seems to hold up much better than the other brands.
