Favorite Greek Myths: In Easy-to-Read Type (Dover Children's Thrift Classics)

My son is an avid first grade reader. He wanted to learn about Medusa and this book was a fantastic introduction. It is not trivial from a vocabulary perspective (get the sample first if you aren't sure), but the stories themselves are true enough to the originals while skipping over some of the harsher parts of mythology. Hercules, for instance, starts with the labors because of Hera, but it politely avoids telling you what he did that caused that. This book proved to be a fantastic introduction to mythology for my son.

Not bad for beginner or refresher for old timers. Did a decent job retelling the stories combining details from different ancient sources. Most of the stories were the longer ones-Jason, Trojan War, Heracles, etc. Did a good job of summarizing, without confusing younger readers. Appropriate for 3-5 graders or younger with some explanation

I enjoyed but it did not include much description and detail. However it was very exciting and all in all a outstanding book.

l gave a five star rating because the stories held my attention. It was so interesting that my wife read it in one sitting; stating she watch the same stories on Clash of the Gods on tv.

This book does not contain enough details about any of the myths to be interesting. By reading it you can get a feel for what the real story was about, but that's about it--no story line, just words linking one point plot to the next. I have only read about half of the stories, but do not think any of them would hold the attention of my daughters. I am not convinced that the author has any feelings about the characters in the book. I do not recommend this book for any age group.

My granddughters are both bookworms and they enjoyed reading this book

We read a chapter every evening and she never got distracted, it is a very nice book to read with them and explain how these myths have evolved so far. Highly recomended.

The book was separated into segments from one story into another in a easy to read format for every age group. The stories was just the right length not too short or long. I would recommend it to people who have a beginning interest in greek myths.

Written in a language that is easy to understand and engaging for a 4-year old. Stories are child safe, doesn't dwell on the gory details of various battles, and glosses over questions like how come Zeus had so many children from women other than Hera... My son loves it and thinks these stories are truly special and more engaging than Superman
