Clearing Up the Mysteries of These Pitchers
These pitchers are great. I bought one of them and two others (Luminarc Quadro 2-Liter Glass Pitcher with Lid and the Luminarc Quadro 1-1/2-Quart (57-1/4-Ounce) Pitcher), to compare. Before getting to the comparison, I want to address some ostensible problems with the Bormioli that other reviewers have raised:1. "The lid is loose, or if I do get it partly sealed, it leaks."The lid seals tightly and doesn't leak. The insert that comes in the pitcher shows how to do it, but it's in tiny type and requires a magnifying glass. Here's how:a. Hold the outer ring with one hand and, with the other hand, turn the handle all the way *counterclockwise.* (Even halfway will do it, but these instructions are designed to be foolproof.)b. Insert lid in pitcher.c. Hold the outer ring with one hand and, with the other hand, turn the handle all the way *clockwise* (about 3/4 of a turn; don't try to force it any farther or you'll break it).The lid is now sealed tight, and nothing will leak from the spout. The inner ring is eccentric, like a cam--not perfectly round--so that when you turn it clockwise, the bulge presses against the outer ring and seals it.2. "Even with the lid off, the pitcher spills when I pour from it."Also very simple: don't fill it all the way to the top. If you fill it only to the shoulder, or top of the handle, and tip it fully when pouring (rather than just tilting it slightly), you'll never spill a drop.3. "The handle is too close to the body."Admittedly, it's a little closer than one would like (probably for strength), and I was concerned about that when I ordered it, but it turns out not to be a major inconvenience. It just means that if you have big hands, you hold the handle with your fingers instead of your palm. Now, the comparison:The 1-1/2-Quart pitcher we can dispose of immediately--first, because it doesn't hold as much as the other two, and second, because it doesn't have a lid.The Bormioli pitcher is made of thick glass and is short and squat, so it's very stable but won't fit in a refrigerator door, if that's what you need. The Luminarc will, if the space above the shelf is high enough. The Luminarc has handgrips molded into the glass, which makes it a more awkward pour and doesn't provide the grip that the handle on the Bormioli offers. What concerned me was that if I poured from a full pitcher with wet or oily hands, the Luminarc could slip out of my grasp.Other reviews have mentioned that the Luminarc was made of thin glass that broke in transit or shortly after arrival. I can't confirm the glass thickness--although I had one here, I didn't even remove the bubble wrap after determining that the handgrips made it inconvenient.I found the Bormioli easily the best for my purposes and ordered three more.

So happy with it I bought a 2nd one!
The media could not be loaded. I bought this to keep water in my fridge. It is perfect. The jug is half gallon size, and fits easily on the shelf. Watch my short video to see it in action. The lid seals tightly and is very easy to take on and off. Simply place the lid on the jug, hold the outer rim down with one hand, and turn the inner ring right to seal, or left to loosen. You do not need to position the lid in any special way for it to work. The seal is tight as a drum. The handle is positioned close to the jug. I can easily slide my fingers in to grip it, but if you have large hands it might be awkward.I have not had any problems pouring it, no big dribbles or spills, maybe a drop or two of dripping at the most. Perhaps some of the complaints about it making a mess while pouring was because they were trying to pour with the lid still sitting on the jug. Remove the lid completely to pour, no problems. (see video)As far as the breakage issue when using the jug to make tea that some reviewers have noted, this is most likely just an issue of improper use. My mom taught me that you have to run glass in hot water first before you pour boiling water in it, or it will break every time. This is the nature of glass, not a product defect. Nowhere in the product description does it say it is appropriate to pour boiling water into it.In review - it is nice heavy duty glass with an airtight lid, easy to use, and does what I was looking for. I was so happy with the first one that I bought a second one.

Please read before buying
Bought three pitchers (1 x 2 liter, 2 x 1 liter). I wanted a square, heavy duty, well designed and functional pitcher that could survive the rigors of living in the fridge. There is nothing chintzy or nonsensical about these puppies. Heavy duty glass, space saving handle and spout which doesn't protrude past the body. No advanced engineering degree necessary to lock the lid either. Just press and turn. Most importantly, the lid stays put when I turn the 2 liter pitcher upside down to give my OJ a vigorous shake before pouring. Square design saves space in the fridge. Spout is a marriage between functionality and necessity. The "stubby" design protects it from getting banged up. Pouring is straight forward and no mystery if you don't make a meal out of it. Just put cup, glass, etc. under! the spout and let'er rip. Overall an excellent fridge pitcher (not much to look at though)that gets the job done.I'm befuddled by some of the negative/critical reviews. If the pitcher is too heavy when full, get a smaller pitcher or don't fill it all the way. The lid has an O-ring but no groove(s) it can lock into. Hence, you have to push down to get a firm seal when locking. I found the handle design actually more conducive to lifting the pitcher when heavy. In short, this is an excellent pitcher that I would strongly recommend to anyone who is in the market for a quality utility pitcher.

Great for small space in the fridge
I bought two of these jugs to keep milk. My fridge has one of those half-sliding shelves so the space to keep tall containers like gallons of milk or any other bottle is very limited. The jug itself is amazing and holds just over a half gallon of liquid. The only downfall is the lid. It makes an airtight seal but when you spin the lid to use the pour feature hardly anything comes out. I end up taking the whole lid off just to pour. The size of the mouth of the jug is very wide allowing you to clean it with ease. Great purchase even with the wonky lid.
