Good to have Purple Rain upgraded to blue ray because it is easier to see the movie with precise detail.

Good movie

One of the best musicals I've ever seen. Some critique the slang used in the movie (That ain't Lake Minnetonka) but that's how we normally talk in Minnesota. I love that the movie is set in my home state and really makes me relive that era.As for the story, it's wonderful. It has many emotional ups and downs. After all the trials and turbulations, when Prince performs Purple Rain I was in tears. However, one of my favorite parts of the movie was when he plays Computer Blue and Darling Nikki. Although it's meant to be a bad dig on his girlfriend, the music is ROCKIN!! Listen closely to the song his father plays on the piano because you will recognize the tune when Prince and the band play Computer Blue. Prince makes that guitar sing his father's song.Prince is a rock and roll genious. I don't like much of his music after his time at First Ave but I would LOVE to hear the music sitting in the vault at Pasley Park and hope his family choses to release it in the future. I think as he grew older his style changed from 80s hip hop to a more Rock genre. I seen him play with Cream and all I can say is WOW!I definitely recommend this movie!!

Actually this is about the blu-ray. The sound is good, not mind melting but just good. The video crisp and looks nice. I thought it might kick butt on blu-ray but it's definitely nice, nice bass but most of the sound is in the front speakers. I don't really get the surround feel I was hoping for but still if your a huge fan something you would definitely consider checking out. The videos are on the blu-ray as well, fantastic no dialog right?,... yeah but they sound pretty bad in general. So generally pretty good and I guess considering the age about the best we're going to get. Recommended for fans. Now if only they had just had a music track without the dialog and sound effects to enjoy won't that be nice.... If only they would use the technology smarter.... and Yes way better than the DVD!

I've seen Purple Rain a million times as I'm a huge Prince fan. It remains a timeless gem that wonderfully illustrates just why after so many years, Prince still reigns supreme. His talent is unparalleled. The film is also ground-breaking in its depiction of Black musicians and their pursuit of fame. The movie inspired so many people to believe in themselves and kick through doors previously considered to be bolted shut. I've seen PR at the theaters when I was a child, on VHS, DVD and several times on cable; with and without commercials! Thankfully, I can now say that I've seen it on Blu-ray. This technology is incredible. Prince is gorgeous, but the disc makes him look even better! I didn't think that was possible! So many video titles have not received the Blu-ray treatment and it's uncertain if they ever will. That's unfortunate. However, I'm grateful that people understand the importance of Purple Rain and the need to preserve it for the enjoyment of generations to come!
