There is a great deal to know about the use of a speed-square beyond simply using it as a square. The manual is very helpful in learning the many tricks these little guys will perform.However mine arrived without a manual so I have to call and ask for one or I have to look up thefunctions on the web. The missing manual is the only reason for a 4-star rating.I use a spring-loaded clamp to clamp a larger 12", speed-square to my radial-arm saw table anduse it as a fence for ripping short pieces. That approach is faster than the two or three minutes ittakes to set the radial-arm saw up for ripping along the built-in fence. This setup does offer the"option" of trimming your fingernails at the same time - NOT RECOMMENDED! I use a 12" or 15"piece of scrap and form a "bridge". One end rests on the peace I'm ripping and close the travelof the blade. The other end rests on a piece of scrap that is a little thicker than the workpiece. Withmy left hand I apply pressure on the bridge to hold the work peace in place and with my righthand I draw the saw through to blah make a nice square cut.NOTE; if you get careless your carbide saw-blade will happily cut pieces off your speed-square. Iknow it will . . .

Ordered once, no manual. Amazon speedily shipped replacement, again no manual. Product description is wrong, but the speed square itself is good. Amazingly, it can be used without a manual!

I have a couple of these already but purchased this one as some are plastic and the metal one doesn't seem to be square anymore. This Johnson is everything I expected. It is square and true, the markings are all clear, consistent and legible and the casting and machining are well done. The finish is even which helps readability and hey, aesthetics can't hurt. The only disappointment is that the pocket manual this is advertised as including is not present. I've seen these manuals before and they are worth as much if not more than the square itself. I've found pdf's to print off but the value is in the size of the booklet which can be easily carried in a pocket for ease of reference. The missing manual is the ONLY thing keeping this from a 5 star review.

It has the most nachos and I filled in the markings with a sharpie®️ ultra fine point permanent marker to make it easier to read also it has an integrated bottle opener which makes me think that sometimes in america it's ok to drink at work.... sometimes

Great square! The extra scribe notches are very useful for marking rip cuts. The imprinted markings and numbers ensure that the square never becomes unreadable. I prefer this square over the other Johnson Johnny square that is matte black with laser etchings. The finish and etchings eventually become so scratched that they are unreadable.

Best piece of kit. Great instruction manual. We used it to measure, cut and fit our new rafters when renovating our roof in North Wales. No experience needed. Remember, measure thrice, cut once. You can also use it yo write your measurements on with pencil before measuring angles and cutting.

No idea what it is. My husband ordered from my account. But I know he returned one he get from another shop saying it didnt do the job. With this one he looked very pleased, he was puting it against the wall And making pleased sounds like „aaaa” and „mhmmm”

Handy little gadget, very accurate... every DIY’er should have one in their tool box, so much u can do with it, learnt a lot watching videos on YouTube, certainly a very useful tool.

Good product however the pictures advertised an explanation booklet which is used for converting deg to angles for roofing. I contacted the seller who said they would get back to me but have not, disappointing:Post arrived ahead of time, very good service in this area.

Expecting a more well made and accurate piece of kit, does not match up to what I was expecting for the price unfortunately.
