The Yellow Wallpaper
I admit this story is disturbing, but I like it. There are several short stories in this book. It makes a good traveling read.

The Yellow Wallpaper
Based on the authors personal experience this book is a story of a women who had depression before she went through this experience. She is on the brink of insanity after having their newborn child. As she is vacationing in a colonial mansion with her family there is a room with bars like prison on the windows. Their happens to be a awkward pattern colored in yellow all over the room. When she looks at the wallpaper she sees disturbing images of women being locked up and begging for help. As she suffers from depression she is in the mitts of all this torture from the wallpaper, when their whole intention was to get away to a nice country home. She soon suspects the house is haunted and goes through this journey with her husband to try to help her recover from the depression she is facing. The worst part of the story is her husband know she has depression, he keeps her away from certain things and from doing certain things so she might not doing anything to harm herself mentally or physically. In my honest opinion I don't understand this book. I am having a hard time understanding why she was depressed and sad before she came to this home. I can understand her depression from the yellow wallpaper but the reason why they came to this home is because she was depressed and apparently this house made it worse for her. My classmates tell me it's because she is being controlled from her husband and feels too guarded but that's not why she is depressed. Her husband is doing these things because she is depressed. So we don't really know what initially made her depressed. Therefore we can't understand why he is doing these things. Maybe he is sheltering her because she saw someone get murdered or whatever else it may be. Jane's husband might think from that depression and sadness she might do something stupid because of what horrific episode she saw, but this is only an example of many things she could be facing.I would recommend this book to people who like mysterious stories because in fact it is mysterious because we have no idea why she is initially depressed therefore there is a mystery behind all this. But if you like old fashioned English words and stuff like that then you would like this book.
