The most versatile Fuji X lens!!
The lens is super versatile, being able to capture from nice portraits at 80mm/f4 with good subject separation to landscapes at 12mm/f4-f8 and even close ups at 80mm/f4-f8. OIS works great enabling shutter speeds from 1/4 and faster and sharpness is very at center at all focal lengths (check the cat picture). Yes, corners are not super sharp at 12mm/f4 but things improve at f5.6 and f8. Build quality is also great, although I would prefer to have an OIS button. It is my favorite Fuji X lens and the one that made me move totally from m43 to Fuji.

Amazing OIS - it a bit of a shock how good it is
For me this lens has been a great upgrade to the XF18-55mm - it is sharper, has better colour contrast and considerably less CA (if any in most of the time). The stabilization is simply epic and so compensates quite a bit for the F4 nature of the lens. The lens also focuses very quickly and very accurately plus it has nice looking out of focus elements too. Contrary to some peoples reviews I also find the performance to be very good in the 55 to 80 range.

High quality and versatile fixed aperture zoom lens, for the Fuji system.
This lens remains acceptably sharp across the zoom range and offers excellent optical image stabilisation. Optical quality at the wide end is very good (for a versatile zoom lens) and comes close to the FUJI 16mm 2.8 prime lens (Note: the prime lens offers higher shutter speeds in low light conditions in a very compact form factor) Optical quality at the Telephoto end is good and provides sufficient subject isolation for portrait images (Note: Image edges are slightly softer at the wide and tele end, this is to be expected for this type of lens).Other lenses to consider18-55mm F2.8-4 This lens is smaller and less expensive, provides similar optical quality, but has a narrower zoom range and is not weather/dust sealed (I had a live bug get in mine! crawling across the rear of the front element).18-135mm f3.5-5.6 This lens has a wider zoom range (Possibly more suited for travel?) but is also larger and not quite as sharp, throughout the zoom range. To achieve the best quality image, select an Electronic Front Curtain shutter mode, if available (e.g. EF+M+E on the XT3), as with most camera systems micro vibrations (from the Mechanical Shutter) at certain speeds, can sometimes be mistaken for lens softness (more noticeable at the tele end). The EF modes are intended to negate this effect.

Very versatile lens
Before I moved to Fuji cameras I used a Nikon D750. Although I had several Nikkor lenses the one that stayed on my camera most of the time was their 24-120mm f4. This seemed to cover 95% of the subjects I was photographing. I moved to Fuji to lighten my load (full frame cameras and lenses can be very heavy especially when you are over 80) and I have not been disappointed. However I missed my "go everywhere" lens so when Fuji brought out this lens it was a "must have" as the range is almost identical on a crop sensor. I have just spent a week photographing the Northumbrian coast and am well pleased with the results.

BRILLIANT
THE PICTURES THAT COME FROM THIS LENS COULD BE NO BETTER . BUT THATS WHAT YOU GET FROM A FUGIFILM LENS

Thinking of selling this lens
This lens is really big and heavy, making it the lens I never want to bring, opting to instead take my 12mm F2 Samyang and 35mm F2 Fujinon - maybe sometimes the 50mm F1.4 Viltrox if I'm focused on portraits. The 80mm isn't enough for sports and the 16mm isn't enough for vlogs or in high spaces. I don't really get what this lens is for. F4 gives you limited low light performance and bokeh so it's not really a studio lens, it's also very conspicuous for a street lens. I think I'm going to sell it.

A one size fits all lens but flawed.
Very versatile lens from wide angle to mid telephoto - 24 to 120mm full frame equivalent at a constant f4. Feels very good and well built at a decent price point. Pin sharp at the centre but gets soft going towards the edges, but an everyday all things - well most things - to all men, it acquits itself admirably. Well worth buying.
