The Electric Light Orchestra were one of the biggest and most successful bands of the late 1970s, producing a massive string of hit singles and albums that almost any other band would envy. Their works have been cited as influences by such hip new acts as Grandaddy and Super Furry Animals. Their frontman and leader Jeff Lynne has been the producer of choice for people such as Paul McCartney, Tom Petty and George Harrison. Yet, for some inexplicable reason, ELO have for too long been the object of ridicule, considered relics of a bygone era. Hopefully, that all ends here: The Ultimate Collection is a two-disc set that gathers the biggest hits of this important and influential band. From "Evil Woman", "Don't Bring Me Down" and "Mr Blue Sky" to "Livin' Thing", "Roll Over Beethoven" and "Hold On Tight", there are few duds amongst these 38 remastered tracks (okay, "Xanadu" is a bit cringe-worthy in retrospect). ELO produced some of the biggest and best singles in rock & roll's history, and The Ultimate Collection is an excellent reintroduction to this great band. Hopefully, this also signals the beginning of a long-overdue revival and re-evaluation. --Robert Burrow

The best 'Best Of ELO' you can buy!
This 38 track 2cd set of remastered ELO singles was released in 2001 and was overseen by band leader Jeff Lynne himself. The compilation contains all of ELO's UK singles, including the tracks from the 'Xanadu' film & a few that didn't chart at the time, such as 'Can't Get It Out Of My Head' (Although it got to No.34 as part of an EP), 'So Serious' & 'Getting To The Point'. Along with the UK singles, the compilation also includes US single 'Do Ya', 'Illusions In G Major' & 'Across The Border' (And, yes, the single mixes are used). If you only love ELO's singles & don't want to deep dive into their albums (What's wrong with you? Do yourself a favour & go check them out. You won't be disappointed!) then this is the best of the best. This is miles better than that travesty 'All Over The World' that purports to be ELO's very best. It isn't, this is! As the title rightly claims 'The Ultimate Collection'. Do your ears a favour and buy this ASAP.

Good compilation of their hits
I used to have their Out of the Blue cd years ago but it got badly scratched up so I bought this to replace it plus it’s got other great hits on it as well.Jeff Lynne is a musical genius in my humble opinion.great stuff.

EXCELLENT COMPILATION 38 TRACKS, 2 CD's
What more can you ask for, 38 great tracks all their better known hits and much more. I noticed one review commenting about poor sound quality, NOT SO, this is early 70's to mid 80's pop music, some tracks are over 50 years of age, it is not an audiophile classical album, but it is as good as one could expect which is really good. I could compare the sound quality to say Abba Gold which has been digitally remastered, it stands up well. I can find no reference to remastering, just this compilation 2001 Sony Music UK. Highly recommended.

A brilliant double CD of great band
This double CD is made up of two CDs greatest hits volumes one and two .ELO was originally formed by Roy wood he wanted to blend rock n roll music with classical music. When he left to pursue other projects Jeff Lynn took over the running of the band it was at this time that the band started having its success both in recording and touring and Jeff started to become a prolific song writer.later on ELO disbanded in acrimonious circumstances Jeff Lynn left to pursue other projects ELO carried on under the name Bev Bevons ELO .Jeff Lynn decided it was time to make a come back as Jeff Lynn's ELO and he is still going strong
