Yes.When you open the barn door,you can install it.

Q: If I have two doors that meet in the middle on the same track do I need two sets of this product?

yes 2 sets, one set for each side of one door

Q: How much space/clearance is required between the rail and supporting wall?

Dear Customer, the thickness of the soft close mechanism is 3/4", so the minimum space between the rail and the wall should be over 3/4". If you need other assistance, please feel free to contact with us via cs-enconker@outlook.com.

Q: How long is each mechanism? How much of an opening between spacers do I need to install it?

Each mechanism is about 12" long. My track for the door has a 3" gap from the wall but you only need about 1 1/2". You can install one in the front and one in the back for a soft close both ways. I only did mine in the back when the door is opened.
