I have always found it interesting to discover things about the Old and New Testaments and how they lived and what it might have looked like through pictures of the ruins we have today. How the land looked back then the dry arid lands and the deserts and how they grew different crops and also the abundance of olive trees. we go back several centuries from the beginning to the present day.how the Romans rule over the area of that time as well as other countries and cultures and how Joshua crossed over into the promised land and how they had to fight the heathens.this book covers that and more. according to the back cover they talk about the following.countries, cities, and cultures of the holy land and the Greco-Roman world.trade, travel, and business.religious groups and customs.fashion, athletics, feasts, and celebrations.honor, shame, and hospitality.and much more. this is from the back cover of the book.It is a heavy book and is hardcover. it was well put together and the book itself looks like it was made with good quality paper and not cheaply made.

I wish I had this a long time ago!! I read a chapter out of it then read my Bible so I understand the context of what I’m reading! It has pictures of maps and artifacts! Worth the money!

I have really enjoyed using this for a Bible study I am attending. If you love history and want historical context for what you are reading in the scriptures, I highly recommend it!

Comes in handy for studies

This book has very useful illustrations of archeological artifacts, ancient manuscripts, diagrams, and maps that bring scripture to life in an interesting way. It is a very valuable addition to any library.

Good but few info on comments give it a 4 out of 5.

Picked this up because I wanted to supplement my biblical library with an illustrated background commentary. I already own the two volume ivp bible background commentary set (which is more in depth) but I wanted a visual tool as well. Also this book supplies visually stunning images to help the younger children learn. Highly recommend and definitely worth the price.

This book is an asset to any preacher, student or lay person serious about studying the Bible.
