ZONKIE Bike Chain 9 Speed 118 Links

Item works as intended.

I put a Shimano Alfine 8 speed internally geared rear hub - driven by a single 20 tooth rear sprocket - on to a 2019 Trek Dual Sport 3. I dumped the 9 cog rear cassette, front 3-gear chain ring, both derailleurs and their related shifters and cables. I now have single speed simplicity yet with the internally geared hub I still have multiple speeds. The Shimano Alfine hub recommends a 9 speed chain and the X9 Zonkie actually out performs a Shimano CN-HG53/9 speed chain I removed after 760 miles. Unlike the HG-53 - which wants a Shimano pin to join, the Zonkie is compatible with a KMC MissingLink or its own version of it. Installation of the Zonkie with the MissingLink was very easy. I cut it down to 105 out of 118 links to minimize slack to simplify tensioning. Subsequent chain cutting for cleaning and re-joining is fast and simple with the MissingLink instead of a pin. I used the Zonkie with a customized tensioner I made to replace the Shimano Alfine tensioner (see pictures). My customized tensioner with this chain deliver exceptionally smooth and quiet performance. I did a short 8 mile ride this morning and listened closely for chain noise. This rig is now amazingly close to the smoothness and quietness of my Trek District 4 which has a Gates belt drive.. I was really surprised by how quiet it is. I am using the 1/2 x 11/128 - 9 speed version of the Zonkie with 118 links (cut to 105). Maybe it is just my setup that makes this work so well but - whatever - I like it. So based on my own experience with this chain - I would recommend it. Just to point out - I originally wanted a belt drive on the Alfine hub to eliminate typical chain maintenance etc but could not get the chain (i.e. belt) line needed to align fore and aft due to the 73mm width of the bottom bracket shell on the Dual Sport3. But after using this Zonkie with my modified tensioner, I think I am going to be just as happy without the belt drive. It is THAT quiet and smooth. Update: I bought a second Zonkie 118 ling chain that I can change out for a dirty one - for a fast and simple cleaning. With a MIssinLink and my spring tensioner, a dirty chain can be changed out for the clean spare in a few minutes and allow leisurely cleaning with essentially no interruption of the bike’s availability.

Nice finish on the chain and all seems great until you start pedaling, then the chain noise is to 2 to 3 times that of a SRAM chain. It was installed on a low end bike which is great but I would not use this chain on my bike with Ultegra stuff

Needed this to replace a two year old chain on my Dahon Vigor folding commuter bike. Its seen a LOT of COVID miles recently...This worked like a charm.I didn't put it on myself - but the tech who did had no problems and completed the work quickly.

Update: it’s been less than a season and this has already bent. I tried to bend it back but it’s almost impossible. The metal it is made from seems to be really easy to bend and unfortunately it didn’t last long at all. I was hoping for it to last at least a year.Old chain was crusty and rusted so I needed a new one and this was super easy to swap in and so far so good. No issues at all so far so as far as I can tell, it’s been great so far.

Buon prodotto. Montato su una Rockrider ST540 con cambio Shimano Deore, pacco pignoni 9v 11-36, doppia corona guarnitura Shimano Altus 22-36. Funziona tutto correttamente.
